Default Got the iabs working with the p28

Just letting you guys know that the iab's on a stock gsr intake manifold can easily be activated through a relay that is powered by the vtech solenoid. Obviously, the only downside is that the iab's will open at the same time as vtec engaging, so it isn't perfect, but I have an ls vtec, so setting the vtec and butterflys to open at 4700 isn't too bad for my motor. I have been running this for a few months now, no problems, more torque than without them in and better gas mileage, with the stock 94 civic ex ecu.

Congrats on your success!

although, I think its kinda pointless that the IAB's come on simultaneously with VTEC (at around 4800rpm on stock P28).

GSR ecu's IAB control fully opens the IAB's at 5700rpm, yet VTEC kicks on around the same RPM as a P28 (4800-5000 depending on throttle load).

So, to have the IAB's open up at 4800 is no different then leaving them un-wired

If you can find a way to make the IAB's open later mimicking the GSR ecu (possibly using an RPM switch) then I think you'll benefit with even more low end torque.

I say disconnect your IAB's, go for a test drive, and see if you notice a difference.

I highly suggest reprogramming your P28 to have the correct fuel & timing maps for your LS/VTEC engine. The stock P28 SOHC VTEC maps are rather lean to run on a B-series engine; it's understandable if your using a stock P28 to save on gas mileage though.

Any thoughts on chipping an automatic P28 so that the circuitry for the AT transmission lockup solinoid operates the IABs katman?

I believe that's possible and using Crome to set that up would more than likely do the trick.

It's way more of an improvement. I had the iabs open the whole time I got my swap, and it bogged really bad. Now it not only feels like a flat power curve, but vtech comes on way smoother and linear instead of the jerky feeling.

I had someone chip my ecu and put chrome on it. I am running a type r basemap and i cant get ahold of the key to retune my car. So I need to find the same version of crome he has.
