Default What do you think guys...

I may be getting a S2000. For literally pennies. The guy who owned the S2000 thought he was a drift master and drifted his *** into a steel lightpole. From what I see it needs a new door, and the frame needs to be pulled back straight. It may also need new keys since the towing company lost his only set of keys to the car. The rest of the panels are fine.

I was thinking of taking the car off the kids hands through his insurance company who is most likely to salvage it and work on it on my own. (have access to a laser beamed frame machine and paint booth).

What do you guys think. Worth it or fug it.

You do bodywork, Marty?

Personally, I think it'd be a pain considering you don't know what else is possibly bent or broken.

If the frame is REALLY out of whack, it won't be able to be straightened. And you'll be out whatever it cost to buy the car.

Second, salvage title cars are not simple to turn into rebuilt titles. I would research your state laws in that regard. Would sure suck to dump money into a salvage title to find out you can't get a rebuilt title and therefore a tag to drive it.

third, insurance. It's not easy to get insurance on a previously salvaged car. And it's definitely not cheap.

I've been known to do some when I really need to. Plus I can get parts at discount through my friends shop. Replacing parts isn't an issue to me.

I will be researching more about this as far as insurance and registration goes. From the looks of it, It could be fixed but im going to bring my friend whose a veteran to see it for himself.

As far as keys go, Do you replace the column and cylinders? or get new keys through the vin?

I wrecked my 350z a few years back. From the "looks" it wasn't bad. Needed new bumper, fender, headlights, radiator and intercooler. upon much more inspection and disassembly at the dealer, the frame was bent in 3 places. twice on one frame rail and once on the other. Too much work to fix it, hence the total and salvaging.

I see what your saying. But no other place in the car is there damage. Its just the one side of the car where it hit the light pole by drift master *** donkey. It could be possibly be just bent in one spot. I am just wondering if it is worthy of fixing it and fux0ring around with it on my own.

Do they need to be programmed to the ECU again? I guess this would be a small issue to deal with... IF I do it at least.

Sounds like it would be a pretty good deal if you have lots of extra time to spend on it!

I would say buy it, and just sell off all the parts. Do this 2, maybe 3 times with some patients and you can come up with enough profit to buy a nice S2000. The parts on the S are very expensive and have a high online resale value.

Motor with trans, 3.5k+
Seats 600+
steering wheel with airbag 350
pass airbag 300+
Seatbelts and rest of SRS system needed for wrecked car 350+
Fenders 500
Headlights 700+
Tails 200+
Trunk 200+
Bumpers 300+
Cluster 300
mirrors 150+
door panels 300+
soft top with frame 800+
1 good door 300+

The list goes on bro, you can sell all the little stuff too like door glass, window motors, interior pieces and make even more $$... Go ahead and add that all up, my prices here are pretty accurate as far as going rate goes.

If this is an AP2 were talking about, then the prices go up ALLOT on many parts.

I didn't even add $$ for the wheels (350+), sub frames (400+), suspension (300+), suspension arms(400+), brakes (300+), and differential (500+). The list just goes on and on, and people will buy these parts pretty quickly on s2ki.

Yeah I hear you on parting out the car. But I dont have too much time and patience to keep track of 1000 threads and parting out the car and then finding boxes and shipping parts all across the country in a course of a month or more.

I would rather just fix the damn thing in a course of one given week and be on my way.

I will do a full build thread on the car once its confirmed that the bitch is mine. (tomorrow) I plan to run an offset that will make most S20000 owners cringe and want to slap me. Because thats how I roll.

Safety might be an issue. Just part it out and make some cash.

funny you mentioned the 350z, nissan engineered the drive train to be crushed on impact for safety(like the volvo semi that would destroy it's own engine on frontal impact)

to the op: unless it's dirt cheap i wouldn't want one, esp when it's x bone structure

<---use to pull frame and does body work and paint

Lots of these prices are not even close to what you can get on the used car parts market (forums)
