How much more money is a 2002 s2k worth versus a 2001??
I looking for s2000's. I found a 2001 one I really like, but there's also a 2002 one also I really like. the 2002 is priced almost $2000 more. same miles and same color, same condition. I've read the official comparison of s2000 models in HT, but is the 2002 model really worth $2000 more? any feedback will be appreciated. thanks!!
It's really your call.... There are many things that make the 02 better. My fav being the option of ALL RED interior (yes I am biased) which was only available in 2002 (wht, blk, silver) and early 03 (silver only)
Changes in 2002:
As a design theme, Honda added "metallic accents" to the car inside and out.
Interior:
• Stereo gained digital bass/treble/fade/bal controls
• Stereo now has a silver faceplate from black
• Stereo now 30W/ch, up from 20W/ch
• Door speakers changed from paper cones to blue plastic
• Two additional speakers added in the doors - tweeters
• The shift **** now aluminum and wrapped leather
• Shift **** weighted - now heavier
• Black interior trim around the IP changed to dark gray (metallic look) plastic from black plastic
• Metal rings added to the interior door panel pulls
• The tonneu cover changed. There is only 1 clip on the each side to push in from underneath. Reportedly it is easier to attach and doesn't appear to 'flap' up like previous design
• Heat and A/C fan are more powerful. The 2nd and 3rd fan speeds are noticeably more effective
• The cup holder cover and trash hole behind it are textured plastic as opposed to the same untextured earlier ones
• The dead-pedal is now metal/rubber and matches the other pedals
• A leather console cover replaces the carpet console cover
• The soft-top now has a glass window and rear-defroster in place of the original plastic window
• The buttons for the defroster and cruse-control on switches are a different shape
• The new window defrost button is the cruise control on the right side of the steering wheel
• The tach indicator line is now white and the scale connected by a solid white arc line
• A second post has been added to the carpeted floor mats to secure them
• Very small storage pockets were added to the doors
• Metal placard on door sills slightly revised
Exterior:
• The shade of wheels are a slightly darker silver with a little more metallic-flake
• Chrome rings added to the tail-lights
• There is a small subtle change in the trunk lid shape at the rear, near the trunk brake light. Reportedly this was to meet the Federal safety standard measurements
• The outside Honda badges are larger
• Paint color changes were made. In the US, Sebring Silver replaced Silverstone Metallic (the newer is a brighter silver). Suzuka Blue Metallic was added
Chassis:
• The front sway bar was slightly reduced in size to provide a more forgiving ride.
Engine:
• ECU reprogrammed - 02-03 S2000s typically make ~10 more whp than 00-01s and run a bit less rich up top
• Oil banjo bolts upgraded
• Transmission "improved" (stated by Honda) for shifting

I had an '01 and now I have a '02. The biggest difference is the glass rear window. The folded plastic window sucked. There's leather around the gearshift and a dead pedal. There are tweeters. They suck, but it's better than nothing.
I think the '02 is a more refined car. If you're going to buy a '01, make sure it has a hardtop.

wow. for some reason I thought GPW had All Red in 03 when I was searching for my car. Must have been searching for 02-03 instead of just 03.

I read that info somewhere on s2ki. So I am not 100% sure on that... I do know I have never personally even SEEN an 03 with all red interior.

The plastic window can crack in cold weather too, especially if old. That's what happened to mine, with a small crack that started from a falling tree-branch. From there, the whole thing split when I put the top down on a cold morning.
Keep in mind that if the top on an 00-01 needs to be replaced, you can upgrade to glass for about $100-200 more.

well image a shattered window if that tree fell on it... or imagine if the tree never fell on your car.

um what? no it does not i actually perfer the plastic over glass as as its not hazy. Glass window is smaller compared to the plastick. Plus i have driven my old freinds 03 countless times and i didnt notice a big big difference.

Thats why you dont put that **** down when its cold. Plus you can get a robbins top with glass window for around 500 bills on ebay with the retrofit kit so it cant fit the 00-01 if the top tears or rips.
I have a small tear in my top i was thinking about replacing it but [freak] it i barely drive topdown anyways just gonna get a ht and thrwo out the softop.

Granted the owner may have neglected it .... but let me tell you. After seeing this 01 S2k in my campus parking lot a couple of times with the plastic window shot to hell ... I must say I would definately not want to own one.
Damn thing looks like caca and a half!
