Default Motorcycle Dynamics

hey guys
There is a ton of information about how stress from the road carries over chassis in cars, and how you can control that stress and stiffen up the car in order to get the ebst use.
Unfortunately ive always had trouble trying to understand how all that stress translates into a motocycle frame and suspension. for Example when racing teams use words like a harder or softer frame/swingarm, what do they mean by that?
i know there are alot of inteligent guys with lots of info and experience on this forum like Mschu and RJ..... so it would be great if you could pass down your information and help me and others understand the dynamics of bikes in more detail

It would help if you could help indentify what aspect of chassis dynamics you are intersted in. I mean this discussion could be never ending unless you narrow it down.

Are you looking for ergos? rake/trail/spec's? Suspension settings.. ie, sag, rebound, damping, compression, etc etc.....?

Schu's right, more info is needed. Softer suspension = more cushy ride.... stiffer may mean better handling, but to harsh for the Daily driven bike.

Sport bikes werent designed to be comfy. If they were, they would be called cruisers or tourers.

If you're not educated in engineering or physics it will be a bit tough to understand the details of motorcycle dynamics but you can still learn a lot. I have a good bit of experience in suspension/chassis dynamics in the racecar world, but I admit I am pretty new to bikes all around. I'm about to purchase "Motorcycle Dynamics" by Cossalter, which looks to be a good technical introductory textbook and would be a good start. Like most good motorsports books, it starts at the tires and carries on from there...once you learn how the tire functions (it's not simple) then it'll make better sense how a suspension and chassis is designed and tuned.
