Default Chassis strength question........

Has anyone ever welded the hatch on their CRX to the body?

I am contemplating doing this to do two things....
a) torsional ridgidity
b) save weight from adding jungle gym bars....

Any racers out there do this yet?

the fact that the majority of the hatch is glass would mean its not as resistant to stresses as those jungle jim bars or rollcages. i can see it addidng some reinforcement but it will never provide the stability of a well designed rollcage. before welding the hatch I would spot weld the seams of the unibody interior.

I think its great that your a whiney douchebag and should shut the [freak] up when you have nothing worthwhile to put in. SiRed only pwns kids when they need to be.

I would say it would have to increase the rigidity a noticeable amount.

The hatch is a LOT of added strength, take the glass off of one and then imagine the entire thing welded all the way around, it would add a TON of strength as far as the body being allowed to twist like it does otherwise, even with the JDM JungleGym....LOL...

And then replace the glass w plexi. And yes, a roll cage + subframe brace.
This is to be a time attack car. In modified class, so sky is the limit with mods, I would just really like to push the envelope with a FWD before I tackle another RWD or AWD. I just have an insatiable love for CRX's.

these, but nevermind, you want it to make an improvement on your handling. I thought you were just looking for safety or something

I think a good welded-in rollbar will improve rigidity a great deal... so much that other things would not make a noticeable difference.
