Default dx & si dizzy (same part number)

I can't find a used si dizzy so I looked to see how much a new one would cost.
I compared the two and they are the same part number.

Is it a myth that you have to swap these to do the mpfi conversion?

I just never understood what would be different in the two.
They are both nonvtec obd0.

Opinions?

The "Si" or MPFI distributor has an extra sensor
through which the ECU determines which fuel injector to fire or "pulse"..

Since the DX uses a throttle body, all cylinders are fed together
instead of fueling each cylinder individually so the extra sensor is omitted.

OBD0 Si/EX dizzy part number.......................TD-02U....and TD-18U

Thanks for clearing that up.

As for the part number issue.

I was looking at auto part stores not oem honda.
I dont get how they could be selling the same part for a car if it wouldn't work.

the people working the computer at the parts counter generally aren't the brightest, so entering correct data seems to be a challenge. Either that or their parts database doesn't contain the information..

I just checked Advanced Auto Parts online store for kicks, and found this:

3117401 is the td-01u dpfi 7 wire distributor part number $228.29 & $100 core
3117402 is the td-18u mpfi 9 wire distributor part number $154.54 & $75 core

no idea why the si/ex distributor is almost $100 cheaper, when it is a more complex part.. but whatever..
