Default Need help welding seat brackets

Im new to welding and im trying to weld my seat brackets. I have a set of s2k seats im mounting into my buddys prelude. I cut one of the brackets and shifted it back an inch and now i need to weld it in.

Im using a basic arc welder i got from the auto parts store. I tried it on some metal in my garage and i ended up cutting through it.

My questions is what amp should i set the welder to and what size rods/sticks should i use?

Thanks

wont really have much luck with a stick welder. I have successfully welded 16ga with 1/16" 6013 rod however, but it wasnt pretty.

Id return it and get a mig welder.
