Default Can't Reach 16 deg base timing, mechanical correct.

I have a b18c, it had just a minimum surfacing on the head and block...

Aftermarket Cam gears, Fluidampner pully... stock cams...

I have triple checked the mechanical timing, the cam gears point straight up and there is a mark on the inside of them that lines up perfectly when the "0" on the pulley is at the mark on the plastic cover..

I turn the car on, put on the timing light, and I cant get the mark past the "0" on the fluidampner... I have the timing locked at 16 in neptune..

Any ideas?

Are you using a regular inductive timing light, or a timing light w/ the advance **** on the back? If it's the one with advance, you need to either set the **** to 0 and use the timing marks on the crank pulley (if that aftermarket has them, if not then on them), or set the **** to 16 and use the TDC mark on the pulley.

it is a snap on adjustable light... but it was acting weird, normally it will show the rpm on the light and I just use the marks on the pulley...

this time it was showing a steady ~2025rpm on the light.. which was odd... the car was idling at ~500(no iacv) and then I bumped it up to ~800....

I'm going to use a regular old light tonight to figure out if the light is my problem. The car sounds like it is timed correctly... but I want to know for sure.

Do you have a jumper wire in the diagnostic connector under the dash near the glove box? If not, you won't get a correct reading with the timing light.

You can lock timing in NepTune, which he's doing. The service connector is not necessary.

Most tunable programs allow for timing to be set. Make sure your cam gears & crank pulley timing is dead on the line. Cam gears might have to be adjusted to +2 degrees because of the mill.
