okay so what i did was swap a different y7 head on my y7 block because the other one had a bad lifter. well i try to start the car and it idles at like 200 and when you floor it, after 10 sec or so it revs up but i noticed alot of smoke comes out [grey colored] maybe because it was flooding?

could it be my timing is off?

also, when it rev's it doesnt sound like it should

 

can anyone help me please ive searched and searched

 

Check you firing order.. may have a plug wire wrong on the distributer cap

 

i never took them off the dizzy and they are different lengths [dummy proof]

I would start with checking all the timing marks and then with a timing light!

 

ill pull my belt off and redo my timing but i never knew how to use a timing light.

the marks never made sense to me

That's virtually impossible. Atleast on my D15B it was. I tried and it wouldn't budge. Basically if you have an adjustable timing gun and you set it to 0* you will be looking for the white mark on pulley,if you set it at 12*(d16y8 timing) you will be looking for the middle red mark. You align them against some V looking thing on the timing belt cover. But please look into what your timing should be. 12* is for a y8 I don't know if it applies to a y7.

 

I'd check the wires first, then make sure you're not a tooth off on the belt.

Is there any honda made where you can install the distributor 180 off? I see folks suggesting to check this all the time, but on the few cars I've worked on, the distributor is keyed off center so it's nearly impossible to install 180 out.

The key words are here are "nearly impossible" remember, nothing is foolproof to a sufficiantly talented fool. This isn't a jab at the OP its just that i've seen way too many people force things to fit when they clearly don't.

I didn't even think it was possible to put in 180* backwards for that reason exactly.

 

it goes in, just not in all the way, and when you crank it, the dizzy does a wobble motion.... and you strip your dizzy bolts and then you have to resort to using a screw and nut.=] bad experiences suck

You'd be amazed sir. I've seen it done before. It is hard, to someone who knows somewhat what they are doing like you or i it's a common sense. but i have seen it happen.

 

the dizzy fit in fine with no problems

 

maybe ignition coil?
