Default Havign problems with 95 civic

Ok.. i have been having problems with my car ever since i changed the motor. Sfter heavy driving (from florida to caannda) i was only running off 2 cylinders. wich meant i pretty much blew the motor...so i swaped it with a 2000 civic motor.. all i changed was the block and the head. Kept the distributor, intake manifold and exhaust manifold. my distributor was burnt though so i changed it.

Then before i had a chance to put in on road. one day my car wouldnt start...thought it was weird.. then another day i tried it again and it started on first crank..so i left it runnign for bout 10 min....turned it off and tried starting it again and it wouldnt start... 2 days l8ter it did the same thing. then it never started again for the next weeks and still...so i changed the distributor AGAIN. Now its trying to start, kinda backfiring a little, but wont turn over to start...my plugs are brand new and they are black as black can get. and a little wet from gas. why its not starting boggles my mind and a bunch of my friends minds too... if anyone has a ny idea what would cause this please let me know... thx

this is just a quick response but did ya check to make sure ecu and harness are compatible for that engine with your car what engine is in it now cause you know an ecu or electrical screw up can do it!!

You can't use a obd2 motor with a obd1 set up. ECU, wire harness, and dizzy have to be changed out. If you decide not to change out the wire harness you have splice in the dizzy wires, you will still need the jumper harness from obd1 to obd2 though for the ECU.

um, no... You can very definately run an OBD2 engine as an OBD1, especially the way the OP has done it, simply reuse distributor, alternator, intake, exhaust and ECU and its all plug n play. To the OP, check for fire and check your timing.

Hey thz fo the reply...i was told that i could do what i did in the swap... my confusion comes with the distributor being messed up and start when it wanted... the timing if im correct is just moving and playing with the distributor to line it to where it runs the best. If this isnt right well i guess i was told wrong..lol someone also told me that it might be the belt that slipped a bit.. but i got fire and i got fuel on all 4 plugs. its trying to start too..just wont turn over to actually start... if it was a 5 spd i could jump start it..but cant with auto tranny..

thx again

if you used the wiring harness out of your 95 civic your fine.

back firing it the result of timing being off, you may have the timing 180 degrees off. take out the #1 spark plug(closest to power steering or altenator) and get a long screwdriver to touch the piston, when the screwdriver is as high as it will go, leave it there and take the dizzy cap off. find the #1 plug wire ( where it plugged onto the cap ) and see if the rotor is on the exact same spot.

and what dizzy are you running right now?
