B16B CTR motor in a EG, I NEED HELP
if anyone can help me i would apprciate it, its a 2000 JDM b16b CTR motor OBD2b and of course my car is OBD1 how should i do the swap? convert it to obd2b with the jumper harnesses but sacrifice not being able to tune it? or convert the motor to obd1 and be able to tune and all that good stuff, yet again sacrifice relaiblity with obd1? what would i do with the injectors? cuz the harness on the obd1 are diff then the obd2a injectors? please i need any and all info on this please help
if the b16b harness doesnt work, then get a obd2b gsr harness and it will plug right up. Just keep your car obd1 and tune the ecu to work with the motor. You can cut the injectors, and rewire it to an obd1 harness. But an obd2b gsr harness should work if the b16b one doesn't take the harness off of the b16b and see if it plugs right into the chassis.
Just go out and find your self and obd1 wire harness out of an Integra Gsr, While getting the harness get the Injectors, Alternator, and Distributor. Swap these parts with the CTR ones and you'll have your self and OBD1 CTR.
Thats all thats needed, And then you can sell the CTR parts that are the same thing as the ones you picked up and make twice what you paid for the Gsr ones just because there " CTR "

so if i use my wire harness off of my civic which is obd1 and is already wired for vtec, then all i have to do is cut my b16b injector harness and clips and wire it to the obd1 injectors so that its useing the b16b injectors? and the same for the alternater? unless the obd2b alternater has a diff clip? can i use the one on the obd1? and as for the distriubter im alright using the obd2b dizzy cuz they make the conversion harness to runn it on an obd1 harness, now what do i do with the vtec selonid? obd2b ctr only has one wire and doesnt have the pressure switch, obd1 harness does? and if i convert it to obd1 is it going to throw a code for not having a pressure switch? i still have the JDM harness that it came with and any and all iformation will help big time, and thanx to the guys that answered i appriciate it , helpin me out big time, so if you have more info please let me know PLEASE

Now your just making things hard on your self,I explained the easiest way for you. All B-series injectors flow the same So just switch everything to obd1 and you'll be good to go. Screw those jumper harness and rewiring it only causes more problems later. Do it right the first time around, Dont be lazy

Also the alternator clip is different all the wires are the same color, just the obd 1 clip is round and the obd 2 is more square.
If you have the harness that came with the motor it will clip into your stock harness so you shouldn't have to make any changes.
whatever clips you cant clip in don't worry about it because the obd 1 ECU wont be looking for it. about the pressure switch you have 2 options get a USDM 1 get a jdm obd 1 or you can have it tapped and add the pressure switch. All the U.S. computers will look for the pressure switch unless you have a AEM or Hondata to disable it.

This is precisely why Hanmin recommended using an OBD2 GSR harness. It's plug and play on the motor, and plug and play into the Civic's chassis harness. It literally does not get any easier.
The stock CTR harness won't work at all.

Actually, I should probably clarify a bit.

No. The EK harnesses run through the firewall and connects differently. Using an EK harness in an EG is an exercise in futility as it'll either require several hours with a soldering iron, or a complete chassis harness conversion as well. It's not advisable.

Yet another reason to go for the OBD2 GSR harness. It won't require adding this to the engine harness. I can't quite remember if all EG chassis harnesses came prewired for the solenoid, the pressure switch, and the knock sensor, but it shouldn't be hard to find out.

so heres my problem, i spent all this money on the motor and i dont want to spend any more money cuz im dead broke, and i know all the plugs plug up except for the dizzy alternater and injectors, those are my only main concern, and the vtec pressure switch, if i were to convert the motor obd1, but if i kept the motor obd2b and get the jumper harness i can use the CTR ECU but no tuning thats the problem, can i use a VAFC on an obd2b?

so how does this sound? its only like 25 for the dizzy jumper harness for obd2b dizzy to an obd1 haress, then cuz the pig tails off the obd2b JDM harness and soilder them to the obd1 harness, same for the alternater since its the same wires just diff shape, and then i dont know from there, you tell me what i should do

Well, if your handy with a soldering iron, and you take your time and do it right you can definately save yourself some money making your own harness. But please do it right, strip the loom off the harness and make your splices far enough inside that the loom will cover them up for a neat OEM look, solder and use shrink tubing. At the end of the day if you do it right its just a cost vs time issue, GS-R harness costs more, but you just have to plug it in, OBD1 harness has to be modified, but its free. Your choice.

If you use an OBD2 GS-R harness, OBD2A/B depends on what year engine you are using, it plugs right into the CTR engine and plugs into the civic shock tower plugs, this means that if have either a '92 civic or a model factory equipped with a D16Z6 and you're using a P28 chipped for you application you don't have to wire anything, if you car does not meet the above criteria you will need to wire vtec from the ecu to the shock tower plug, and the knock sensor if using an ECU that looks for it.

The only plugs that are different are the ones that need to be different (dizzy, injectors, whatnot...). The harness terminates in the same places as the OBD1 Civic harness using the same plugs with the same pinout. Literally it's plug and play.

I think that maybe you're trying to overthink this a bit. You use the motor you bought with an engine harness from a 96-01 GSR and an appropriately chipped ECU. There's a possibility that you'll need to run three wires from the shock tower plugs to the ECU. That's it.

No, thats the beauty of it. The plugs on the shock tower are the same and match up, but the plugs on the engine end of the harness are OBD2 and plug into the OBD2 CTR engine. basically using an OBD2 GS-R harness gives you the same result as cutting all the engine connectors off the OBD1 harness (distributor, alternator, injectors etc.) and replacing them with the OBD2 versions from the CTR harness.
You beat me to it kendall

the clips at the shock tower arent the same as the clips from the 96-01 GSR engine harness is what im trying to get to, cuz if it was then i would swap that right in, but im pretty sure those clips are diff
ok, sorry for that repost, now heres my other question.....lol im gettin stupider at the moment my brain is fried, so then i would be runnin an obd1 ECU right? or can i get the jumper harness for the ecu to run the obd2b CTR ECU? it wouldnt make a diff then right? and are you guys 100 percent about the GSR harness?

I've done swaps exactly like this at least 15 times (probably closer to 20 to be honest). The plugs at the shock tower ARE THE SAME!!! Go get the OBD2 GSR harness and you'll see. I'm not blowing smoke on this one, I've done this so many times it's not even funny.

Yes, run a chipped OBD1 ECU. Get it from someone reputable and make sure they know it's a B16B. Using OBD1, you'll be able to change programs as you continue to work on your build, a luxury that OBD2 simply doesn't offer. Plus the cost of a conversion harness will probably be close to half of what a chipped ECU would cost.
