Default f20c intake manifold/tb porting

Has anyone ported/polished there intake manifold and went say 3-4mm larger on a tb bore with dyno resaults. I'm going to dyno mine, but figure it would be a good topic to discuses.

a lot more cost effective than a exhaust.

did you flow test you intake manifold or throttle body after you ported it to see if it would help?

I did that on my old Prelude to HUGE success...

However, our S2k's are very well designed from the factory. I'm not sure that a little plenum and runner cleaning up even with a slightly larger TB would net much if any power.

I'm 100% supporting you testing it out, just don't get your hopes up if it doesn't dyno higher.

One thing to keep in mind - It'll be more cost effective than an exhaust only if it has a better $/hp ratio

i'm gonna finish installing my clutch wends, when my throwout bearing, etc comes from hardtopguy.com then i will spend the day porting and bore out the tb. it's not going to cost anything, i'm boring it out myself, porting, etc.

i'll try to get to the dyno by the end of the week with a before and after

when you do, let me know how you get the fuel lines off - when I installed the Hondata IM gasket I had to leave the whole manifold just sitting there cuz when I tried to unbolt the line that goes down between 2 runners its bracket started to bend.

I wouldn't mind removing the IM just to polish it up a bit with a die grinder and some smoothing wheels....

Isnt the intake manifold used as a heat sink on our motors?

isn't that the job of the radiator?
using the intake mani as a heat sink doesn't sound like a good idea to me but i'm no engineer (well, software engineer but that doesn't count).

i was going to port my intake mani when i installed the hondata gasket but i was too lazy at the time. make sure you don't go overboard and port the runners larger than the intake port on the head, just port match. but it seems like you've done it before and know what you're doing.

The Hondata intake manifold gasket puts an end to that tho...

sadly, using the IM as a heatsink = loss of power since it cooks the air on it's way into the motor.

in a perfect world, we'd have near-freezing air entering the cylinders heh.

i did wonder why they use a metal gasket for the intake mani instead of a paper gasket. the metal gasket will transfer more heat to the intake mani. i'll have to some more research on this but this is the first i've heard on this. do you have any links that document this?

By running coolant through the IM, a variable is removed. It should always be in a certain range temp. This allows for better ECU compensation.

Seen some was one talking about it on S2ki a while back and we talked about when debating about the Full-Race intake manifold. google it

I was only meaning for optimum efficiency/power... I'm sure there White Smoke is correct that it's easier for the ECU to crunch numbers if the air temps are within a narrow range during normal operation.

If it was even remotely feasible I'd totally insulate the whole intake, TB, and IM with dry ice every time I was running at the track lol
