Default Difference between B18c R 96 and 98 spec

Im about to buy a b18c type R engine, but i dont know for sure if i should get a 96 or a 98 spec. Im planning to put it into a daily driven circuit EK4.

I know that the 98 spec has more torque, because of the header. Will i get the same amount of torque (at the same RPM) if i should swap a 98 spec header on a 96 spec engine ?

And are there any other differences between the 2 engines ? (besides the gear ratios of the tranny's)

The 96 spec is about 375 dollars cheaper then the 98 spec around here.

I believe the 98-01 spec has a better exhaust manifold and cams but just slightly. That should be it.

check these vids out and you can see how different (or similar) the two are....

i would personally just go for the 96, its cheaper and you can just put a hytech replica header on it and it shud be sufficient. Save your money

96 spec is the equivalent to our ITR in the states(until 00' when we got the CTR spec intake cam).

the 98+ spec has the larger(CTR cam) intake cam. the " 4-1 ITR jdm header", and a 4.7FD with different gearing.

I don't mind the whole 96-97/98+ with the intake cam difference/header, but I do like the 98+ transmission with the 4.7FD.

ehh , i rather have a 96 tranny and swap out the 4.4 for the 4.7 FD .. not feeling the gsr 4th and 5th gears in the 98+ transmissions
