*SEARCHED, No results. Wheel Bearing going out...
Hey everyone. I just picked up a pretty clean 93 Si over the weekend for an amazing deal for its condition; 2k dollars
. Only a few catches; the main one, and only mechanical issue, being that the front right wheel bearing (as told to me by previous owner) is wearing out. Ive never dealt with a wheel bearing, but that corner of the car does chatter from time to time at low RPM, or starting to move from a stop. I searched the forum and FAQs and saw no mention or threads about wheel bearings. Does anyone have experience with them on preludes or if its applicable hondas in general? If so, what am i looking at in: Parts if i tackle it myself, or cost if i have it done by a shop? Thanks in advance for you help!
Im glad to be back in the Prelude fold

I believe the hubs are pressed in, making this a little more difficult of a task unless you have tools for removing the wheel hub
eh.. by your description it could be a few different things. Its possible its an axle issue, a ball joint issue, or the wheel bearing as you mentioned.
I would guess wheel bearing and fix it first, but in case you know where else to look. It is pressed, but its not hard to press off or on. Just need a pulley puller sort of tool to go at it.
if the ball joints are original, its very possible they could be gone and causing some issues. You probably will have trouble with an alignment too though...
I had a busted axle that was so bad gone it would pop like you described because the insides of the CV joint were trashed. I would check the bott for tears or grease.

i agree with one of the replies....could be a couple of things....i'm thinkin wheel bearing or axle....
axles are easy to change if you know how to do it...i've driven on a busted axle and it kept on popping in n out...got to the point where it literally broke on me...
wheel bearings are easy to change if you have the right tools though...heres a DIY link of you wanna try changing it yourself...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1996133...i'm actually in the process of changing my driver side wheel bearing...best advice...if you can take the hub assembly out n take it to a shop to have the old and new wheel bearing pressed in/out...then do it...shops shouldnt charge you more than 40 bucks to press in the bearing...otherwise that link shows you how to change the wheel bearing yourself...sucks though..the tool needed costs about 300 bucks...
hope this helps

Hey guys, thanks for stopping by and dropping some information for me. Gots to love the interwebs
This weekend was used to take out the interior, clean the bejesus out of it with no seats or console in the way, install my stereo, and put the leather interior from my last lude in. Im loving the White on black leather
Back to the issue at hand; ive done a number of axles before. I had to swap out a bad one, and did two when i put my H22 in my last lude a few years ago. I havent put the car up yet to take a peek at the CV joints and axles as there isnt a jack at my moms place where i did all the work over the weekend. Ill have to go to a buddy's place to jack it up (i have every tool i need, including jack stands, but no jack :-p) Japostol78, thanks a ton for linking up a DIY
When i get it in the air and have a look ill update this bad boy.
