Its funny you say that this motor came out of anyone of my own cars i was the one that did the rebuild. I know what everyone is going to think but this is not my first rebuild but it is the first that snapped a rod right in the middle don't ask me how because I know the stock rods are good for over 300 whp. I cant call it bad luck but I am really upset.
No worries though I already had a spare block that was rebuilt a while back I took it out of my car. It was a 92 ls, But I was hoping to use it for my ls-vtec setup I was about to do but I guess this will have to be done right now. I have several motors in my house right now anyway I have a jdm b16 but i need to replace the valve stem seals. I have my turbo gsr motor that needs rings ( that's where the original block came from)
I bought the bottom end from a friend it already has forged rods pistons and rings with a block guard and a Type-R oil pump. So I used this gsr block with another b16 del-sol head I picked up from a friend. But its ok the coupe will have to wait I'm going to focus on my autocross hatch so I can put in a 2000 single cam turbo.

eh 13 miles??
id say inproper rebuild. I mean look at the cylinder wall on the left- huge grooves down it, buildup on the top- did you even hone the cylinders? I see no cross hatch-
What were your P/W clearances?
what were you rod bearing clearances?

funny you say that i honed the **** out of it and Ill be honest I think it was improper rebuild to I wont lie. I haven't taken the pan off so I want to see the condition of the rod. I could be wrong but this is what I think happened. If anyone has rebuilt a motor you will know what im talking about.
When I put the motor together I always start cylinder no1 and over to 4. When I got to 3 I flipped the motor upside down and the rod bolt slid up a little so I checked it and fixed it and torqued it down. I am assuming the same happened to cylinder 1 but I never rechecked it. So that is where I F*ed up. I usually check my work 2 maybe 3 times and I didn't. This is a lesson learned no matter how many times you have done the same thing always go back and check again and again for good measure. and the cylinder no 4 looks like that because i have had it without a head for a couple days now.

could be or maybe the rod bolt slid up a little and I didn't notice or maybe I over torqued it. I will know more when I pull the pan off so I can see the dead remains. Ohh and EKFG I wasn't not revving it up i need to brake her in so i knew to keep it under 4k for at least 500 to 1000 miles.

how many steps were you doing to torque the rod? sometimes ya forget to compelte a step or somethign ya know?

I have been building motor by myself for over 8 years believe me unlike you I know what I'm doing. I might have missed a step like I said i just got to comfortable. Just goes to show you like I said check and recheck your work.
The fact that you admit it was your mistake and tell us the reason it F**ked up shows your a classy tuner; as for egallmotor unless your perfect i wouldn't say ****
yeah.. sounds like a simple mistake, not a bad rebuild. Bad rebuilds usually last a few thousand miles until they're back to where they were before the rebuild. Definitely check the pan to see what remains.

about rebuilding my B16A. No wonder I've been procrastinating.
