(this will be long - just so your warned)

Alright - so I know basically crap about cars - i mean i've read about 2 million pages online but show me an actual engine bay and i might think it was a trunk filled up...not that bad but you get the point

so my dilema - I need a car for school and i'm a student so i'm pretty broke - so i got all excited and bought a civic 95 red hatchback cx w/330 000k for 1300cnd (alright deal?) - its pretty rust free except for the rear quater panels the engine is alright pretty strong - gear box is pretty mushy but stays in gear - starts everytime - i wasn't to worried cause i was planning on doing an engine swap within 8 months - get larger front breaks with calipers - rear drum swap - full coilover suspension - the whole nine - not the best of the best but pretty darn good - my dream was in like 2 years to take it for some fun track days -

well i tell some friends at work 'hey i got this sweet ride' i'm gonna fix it up. then one guy is like 'yo i'm selling my civic!' and i was like 'word?' and he tells me its a 92' hatchback w/ b16a + exhaust + all bushing replaced + front coilovers (he got lazy and didn't do the back?) + light rims --- body has 240 000km on it and engine has 80 000k - he says he barely drives it and hes got 2 other cars so he's gotta sell it. i haven't seen it yet.

so he wants 3000 for his ride = do i sell mine and buy his?

i've got a hook up for a b20b with transmition for $500 and its only got 80k on it -- what do i do??? How much money do i loose doing the work to my car - i have a hook up for some cheap mechanics but i think i gotta pay closer to full price for the stuff that needs a garage+hoist+whatever else they have. what makes the most sense?

that sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but it's all in preference. some people like to start from scratch and make a ride completely their own, others don't mind picking up where other people left off. that's a pretty good price he offered though. a hatch with a b16 will be faster than a hatch with a b20 because the b16 has more horsepower as well as VTEC. a lot of people like the CX hatches though, because they're the lightest of all the EG civics weighing in at 2094 lbs. hope this helps, and welcome to the wonderful (and often frustrating) world of hondas!

 

I'd probably pick up the 95 Civic just cause it's stock lol.

what about a civic with a b20 vs a b16 civic not hatch's...which one would faster...still a b16 cause of vtec an more horsepower?

buy the hatch and put a b16 head on it and it will be faster

 

yah but i gotta consider money - i have some but - well i think i'm gonna go for the 92 - seems like i'm getting suck good value there its hard to pass up/

he did say there was some problems with the fuel lines/tank - like it cuts out or something - any ideas on whats with that?

he wants to sell his which he wants to put in a b20 cause he has a hook up

the other hatch is his friends with the b16
