Default Track day video @ Pacific Raceways

First time posting a video here. Anyone who has any constructive criticism of my driving feel free to comment. This is my 3rd time going to the track so nothing spectacular. Keep in mind my tires are a year old with 3 track days on them so my cornering speed was limited. Still workin' on the heel-toe.

Last run of the day. Thought I had the track all to myself, so first half of the video I'm just working on a few things. Then a Porsche passes me and try a little harder

Specs:
97 Civic coupe
JDM B18C Type R engine
JIC suspension
Volk TE37s
Azenis RT-615s

There is definately more in that car. I see you're short shifting pretty much every gear. Those motors need to be reved to come alive. Glad you're having fun!

Very nice. Excellent, in fact, considering this is only your third time. Your inputs (steering, throttle) appear very smooth and you are hitting the marks consistently. Now just a matter of continuing to carry more speed through the turns. Keep the same braking points, but ease of the brake pedal quicker so you don't scrub quite as much speed. Start to experiment with a faster transition from brake pedal back to the throttle. As long as you keep the same level of smooth-ness, your speeds will come up.
You are definitely moving faster nearer the end of the vid. Good job.

your line is pretty good, very hard to comment from the video as we can't tell your car's grip. Couple comments on lines. Unless you are letting people by, there's no need going back to center after T9.

I used to run the same line as you, but not any more.

going into the 3b, you don't have to wing your car all the way to the right turn in cone... depend on how fast you exit out of 3a, you should be able to shave some time turning from the center.

out of T8: different scenerio, track out all you can, you will have a lot of room making T9.

here's my lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY4hm-_GinU

ps. which media do you use when you upload to youtube? my resolution got so bad that you can barely see the speed of my display.

Thanks for the suggestions. Wish I could get around as fast as you slowv6. haha. I converted the original mpeg2 file to wmv 640 x 480 @ 2000kbps using ImTOO mpeg encoder. But I've read encoding them to xvid/divx gets the best results.

Man u get up to 180km/h much faster than what I did in my EM1(b16a w/4.785) before. I can barely reach 180km/h if I try to brake really late before turn2. One of the main reason is because u're much smoother than me right from 5a-b I guess?

Yeah like someone else said let yourself get closer to the cones on your left side at the exit of turn9 would be nice. It's a lil bumpy there but u're easy on your steering & should be going WOT there already?

Not trying to "steal" your thread but here is my shitty driving in my Honda Fit & my old 00' EM1 civic. Pls feel free to give me some comments if u have time.

My first day was 9-17.

Why not simply brake later? I felt like I was not allowed to carry enough speed to require that much braking effort that early.

I suppose as I gradually go faster the braking points will make more sense to me.

Ditto on the advice above By the time you hit Turn #2 you should have ramped up a good amount of speed. The key is how well you exit turn 9. Track out as farrr left as you can...

EG69, I have a couple of questions:

I noticed that you don't track out all the way to the right heading into the braking zone for turn 8, my instructors were telling me to, but it feels like I can't get the car in a straight line for braking if I try to track the car out that far. what should I be trying to do there?

How do I know how far is too far to track out on 8?

do you accelerate all the way to the braking zone for turn 2, or are you maintaining a certain rpm from the turn in point?

I was told to track all the way out after 3a but I met someone with a mini cooper that said he was faster driving a line similar to yours. Have you noticed a difference one way or the other?

I noticed that you lift after 5a, my instructors had me hold a certain rpm all the way through 5b. Maybe your carrying a ton more speed into 5b (I'm at around 5k rpm in 3rd). Any advice here?

I found myself wanting to lift, but they kept reminding me. At the end of the day Oct. 6 it was raining heavily, one of the instructors was behind me in another car, I lifted a tad through turn in and lost it. it was the first time I had lifted there, not sure where the mental block came from, but every time i maintained rpm before that, my car stuck all the way through 6

I was on fuzion zri's (getting tossed after the winter for some star specs)

Here are some things to try:
-Brake a bit later and harder into T2
-Into T3a I like to stay at least one car width away from the left edge of the track and make a line straight to my turn in point. This allows later braking and prevents lock up due to the bump on the left.
-In T3b I try to place my right front wheel on the bumps as I turn in.
-T5a I like to tap the brakes going up the hill with the car in the middle of the track. Accelerate over the crest then move to the right side brake, make a late turn in and accelerate to the left fog line. Tap the brakes into T5b and accelerate through T6
-Accelerate all through T7 keep on the throttle to T8.
-Track out a lot (near the edge is ok) and accelerate out of T8 and work back to the left some before entering T9. Do not pinch off the exit of T8 it is the most important one on the track.

This is the only video of mine I could find at PR. Unfortunately I'm driving off line in many places because I'm defending or challenging a position. The video should still show where to brake an apply throttle. You can also see a variety of lines through T8.

Another thing I noticed are the gates on the track. I would find those to be distracting and somewhat restrictive. You may want to try running with different clubs, I tend to like the Alfa club.
