B series VS D series Pros & Cons of both.
Well one thing I was surprised at when I went to the B16 from a D series was there was no noticeable change in gas mileage. However, I'm sure if I had gone from a D15 to a B18 I would have seen a difference. Of course the B series engines are available in a 1.8 liter version, and there is the fact that most of the D series engines are SOHC. DOHC to me means smoother top end and more potential in terms of valve timing (this is my opinion). Most people say that the B series just has more "potential", while that may be true I feel the "potential" of the D series is under rated.
I personaly love the b series motors, when you turbo them they come alive and produce real power. i am currently buiding a d16 cuz its so cheap and i only am tryin to build a reliable 230whp turbo daily driver. (turbo, reliable, yeah right!) but i leaning more in favor of the B series.
d series cheap
400+ on stock sleeves
vitara pistons hold 450+hp and only cost 120
loads of torque
b series beefy
it can make loads of power
more displacement
and im going d-series since people think the more cams you have the more power. and i can have a built bottom end for less than 300
only if d-series had a shorter stroke and a bigger bore it could make close to the same power as b series with one less cam.

B heads flow a gabillion times better then the d counterparts. Sorry. And you pulled that 400 and 450 hp number out of your ***.... their stock rods are horseshit.

I though they are both interference engines, meaning your valves will most likely get bent when the timing belt snaps.
and a D series being able to take 400 hp + on stock sleeves reliably is

after going to a b18b from an a6/y8 setup i will never go back. its so much quicker, and it has a lot more low rpm grunt for just tooling around town under 3000rpm. i think next ill be goin with a sir II b16a

its been done many times already you moron why dont you search and with no block guard lol. hell it even ran 10's
it amazes me how much people underestimate the D. if your destined to go B start of with the b18a/b swap cause they don't disappoint like the b16. this is coming from experience.

Well if your d16 head gets ruined, you can find a replacement for next to nothing. Getting a replacement b16 head on the other hand..........not so cheap.

d-series for the win. dohc zc=1.6L 130-140hp and b18a1/b18b1=1.8L 120-140hp
d-series=400hp with $500 bottom end
b-series=400hp with $800 bottom end, plus the cost of the swap
d-series=direct swap
b-series=axles,harness,mounts,ecu,ect.....

ummm...hmmmm....i've seen boosted b16s and gsr's make almost 500hp on a stock block so i dont know where your trying to go with your post..yea the swap may cost you more money but its def worth it

Its all fanboi bullshit out of both camps. There is no end to * vs * in the honda world.
It all comes down to your goals and how much you can spend.
K>B>D.......thats just the way it goes.
