Default 99' Civic factory alarm, how can I test to see if working

I have a 99 honda civic 4dr and it is equipped with a factory honda alarm. I have set it and it appears to be set (lights flashing horn beeps) and tried and tried and can't get it to go off. I have shook the car, tried to open all the doors by the handle forcefully and it wont go off. What can I do to check and see if its working and if its not, what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

it is a factory alarm, it will not go off by forceful shaking or anything like that. It will only go off under a situation such as it gets unlocked while the alarm is set. So to test it, sit in your car and use the remote to lock it and engage the alarm. Next, manually unlock the door and open it. The alarm will then go off and all that jazz.
