With these type of problems you have to address a few things first.
1. How much time do you have? (How long can the car be inop for)
2. How much money do you have? (How much can you spend without cutting into bills/food)
3. What do you want? (Do you want something more, bigger engine, new setup-boost? N/A?

So you know you where happy with your previous/current setup.

If the engine is still in one piece and have the time and money a rebuild with upgraded parts will be your best option (keep in mind to have a machine shop check for warped block/head, cracked walls, scored bearing journals.) If its possible for you to rebuild do it with upgraded parts that your best bet.

If you don't have the time for a rebuild keep it simple and just swap in a stock type r engine. You will have the same setup you where happy with and keep downtime short and have the car running quick.

screw type Rs
b18a1/boost/supercharge, injectors, crome/any EMS, take it to a tuner (or do if yourself...) and youll be just as happy plus youll have a few bucks left over for celebration brews
the ONLY THING that will suck is when you pop your hood you cant say "its a type r" ....big loss lol

i got a ls with huge *** all motor cams on boost first dyno my wg spring was too soft and would only make 17 psi of boost from a sc6162e... i made 347 with no cam adjustments and minimal tuning. ITS JUST A LS... faster than your "type r" ever was i spent 6k total on built motor and turbo setup. your type r cost you 3-4k alone

what exactly is wrong with the engine? this would better help determine whether you should rebuild or get a new engine.

that was probably your problem
