92 GSR with 92 LS trans swap, motor power problems, HELP!!!!
ok, so i put in an LS tranny on my 92 gsr, now i know that the ratios are longer so im not gonna have as much acceleration, but i have a high top end (DUH!!)
ok the problem is now that my motor has NO power under 3k, but above 3k it feels ok,
can anyone give me any direction, i thought it might have been the batter from it sitting for a week, but its putting out 12.9, wich for my car is usual,
could this be a enging ground issue, or does it seem more like intake/ ignigtion
if you need more info on the problem just re post the question

Your engine has no torque below 3k rpm to begin with.
The GSR transmission is geared upwards to make up for the fact that the low end torque sucks so much *****. That's also why your highway RPM's were so high.
The integra type R motor is even worse and uses basically a b16 transmission for that exact reason.
the gear ratios are really that much lower. the thing that really kills you is the lower ratio of the final drive, which makes basically all the gears suck from 1st to 5th.
That's your problem.

well your imput might be valuable to someone else, but my car has no problem with the longer ratios, i knew the LS tranny had longer ratios before i bought it, and thats exactly why i bought it, by the way it was a vacuum line
so before you tell me my car is a piece of trash, please remember that you dont know what kind of power its putting out, meaning that you dont know if an LS tranny would be advantagous to me or not
but thanks

Don't get butt hurt cuz u don't understand. B17 don't make torque to save their lives. And there is no situation where an ls tranny would be advantageous on a b17 except maybe gas mileage. The only area that could even possibly be a good idea for an ls tranny would be a high high power/tourque boosted setup. And even then its arguable. No na setup would benefit from an ls tranny
Dude, i in no way called your car a piece of trash.
Your low end still sucks though compared to the LS. Hence why it needs to have it's original transmisson. I could be wrong.. you have a stroker kit and you've increased your displacement, done a ton of tuning, etc, right?
an LS transmission will never be advantageous on ANY motor, at least for performance.
You'd 'need' an LS transmission if you had rediculous boost...... but your low end would still suck
That's generally how motors are. You can build them up to have a crapload of power, but you lose low end power in the process, making the car less pleasant to drive in the city. honda's VTEC DOHC motors are just that - crazy built up high end, crazy gear ratios so you can actually tap that power at high end so you don't have to wait forever and a day.
anyways. whateva dude.
