Default What Vtec head should I use?

I currently have a 89 CRX Si with a d16a6 motor in it. Id love to add vtec and after looking around I found two different heads I can use, the Z6 or Y8. Im not sure which one to use. My plans for the car is to do the mini-me swap, eagle rods, vitara pistons, ebay turbo and stage 3 clutch.

well as far if you wanna vtec or not..I say just keep your d16a6 engine cuz those motor got potential..I have a 88 crx si with the same motor...boosted with greddy td04 turbocharger...intercooler, 450cc injectors, tuned turboedit ecu, stock internal and boosted about 8 psi and it pulls hard as hell...compare to my buddy mini me swap with the d16z6 head with a6 block..pretty much same setup but aint no match...from launch to simple roll..pull on him everytime..but thats my 2 cents good luck

We all have dreams....350whp is going to be hard to do on a single cam.

Good luck with making that kinda hp... its all in the tune, money p[lays a big factor..how much boost, and longetivity are you wanting? you could have 350hp.. but it wont last long..

probably gonna need a bit more internal work before you can safely hit the 350 mark. sleeves and block guards would be a good idea, IMO i would keep the A6 head to keep compression down as much as possible and use the extra money you were gonna use for the new head and get some machine work done. get some 75.5 mm pistons and bored to match to take care of the piston slap you are gonna have with the vitaras or a nice P&P. i wouldn't worry too much about vtec if you are just gonna throw boost at it anyway. but like i said its just my opinion.

Stock block.. about couple grand for a good turbo setup or you can cheap out with crap and risk blowing it all.. and about 8-10lbs of boost. that should bring you to about 200whp..
[freak] the d-series get a cheap b18, they are fun and torqy.. much better than a d
See my horse power below.. that was a shitload of money!! built it boosted it to 1 bar, 40 XXX km and running strong still. That was just a street tune, still has another 50whp in it.

A stock block (meaning no sleeves) can handle up to around 400HP with a good tune stock rods can hold up to TOPS 220HP again witth a good tune if you want around 200hp to the ground you can do it with the A6 throw in some ARP headstuds and get a good tune and you will be alright. Do NOT waste your money on a block guard cause thats all they are is a waste!! Read this thread and you will get some good ideas LOTS OF READING!! https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1643764 Also check out turbod16.com also A LOT of info there. Dont listen to people there is A LOT of potential in a D-series. Also while sure its true you dont need to do a mini-me swap to get good power since you are boosting anyway however you get a lot more/better tuning options with obd1 over obd0.
