Default The Metal Gas Cover? huh?

I was at the pump waiting for the tank to fill up, when it not only filled up, but overflowed and gas spurted everywhere. I was standing next to it at the time so it was probably only a couple ounces before i stopped it. Luckily the gas was pumping terribly slow. Unluckily, it looks like the metal circular thing that usually covers the tank is missing. It may have dropped outside when I removed the pump, or it might be inside the gas tank. Advice? Information? Any help at all?

Thanks

What year is your accord? A lot of them aren't made with those anymore.

98 Accord EX 6 Cyl

I'm already going to bring it to get looked at for other reasons, my actual specific questions are:

How much would it cost to fix?
Is it okay to drive with just the gas cap on?
Can it damage my car if it did fall into my gas tank somehow?

thanks for any help

I wouldn't worry about it. My 02 doesn't have the flap either.

Yeah, I haven't noticed any problem with the gas cap on.

I'm still worried about bringing it back to the gas station. Would you guys recommend just stopping the gas pumping before the tank is close to full and nothing else?

that metal cover isnt what stops the gas when your tank is full ... all it does is prevent other things from going inside ... the pump itself has a sensor for that so ur ok
