Default TL1000R vs GSX-R750 comparison?

The two bikes in question...

Besides the obvious cc difference. Are they designed for different purposes? Are there strong points in one that the other does not have?
The reason I ask is because the TL only retails for about a $100 more than the 750. Why?
Also, at a local shop there is a used one of each of these two. They are asking $7500 for the TL and $7700 for the 750. Both bikes have about the same miles and they are both '01's.

the Tiller is a Vtwin - lots of torque down low.

the GSXR750 is a track star.

you should ride both. they will be different experiences.

most people will tell u the 750 is 'faster'...which it probly is. but how important a factor is that for you?

i would probly get a TLR cause it would haul my *** around better, since i am street-going rider exclusively.

if you want that stunna look, get the GXRXZXRRZ 750. everyone who is anyone cool has one....or if you're serious about heading to a track, then get one.

as far as suspension I would have to say that they are probably pretty close to the same if not the same.

the chassis's may be slightly different to accomodate the 2 different types of motors.

But as far as the big picture,

the twin has a whole different powerband from the inline 4. the twin is torquey and the inline is more high rpm power.

Both bikes are good...but I personally like the sound of an inline 4 vs the sound of a deep rumble of a twin. To me twin's all sound like Harley's...but at least the Japanese/Italian twins have a better tone...not just loud noise of the Harley.

I'm sure both bikes that their strong/weak points.

Both are fast, both can probably handle with the best, but I'm sure their are differences. The main one being powerband...and maybe weight differences.

My personal opinion is get the gixxer 750. If you specifically want a racey bike...Suzuki uses the Gixxer 750 not the TL.

But if it's just something to ride and enjoy...then just get the one you feel most comfortable on and like the best.

That is what will ultimately drive my decision. I kinda like the v-twin sound and it did feel a little more comfortable than the 750.

The tiller is going to be heavier, v-twin.

You really can't go wrong with either, they are Suzukis after all!

I own a TLR and have ridden a few GSXR750's, heres my take.
They are both very fast, stock, the 750 will be a bit faster, but ONLY if the rider can ride well, a modded TLR is no joke though, most out there are modded, they respond VERY well to changes. A properly done TLR will run with almost anything, and coming out of corners, it will run away from almost everything.
The suspension and feel are both very different, if there is a weak point on the TLR its the rear suspension, it uses a rotary damper instead of a conventional shock, for the street, you will never notice a difference, on the track, you really have to play with it. The TLR is a bit heavier. Change to a 180 rear tire, first thing, it dramatically improves turn in, change the ride height slightly to suit you, and get the damper settings sorted, you will LOVE it.
The 750 is great off the floor. I like it alot, but the TLR has a quirkyness that I like, you have to get to know the bike to get it to work, the low-mid range power is WICKED on these, and don't think they fall off at the top, these are 120 RWHP bikes stock, you can easily get them up to and over 130 WHP, and well over 80 lbs FT at the wheel. I have ridden the 2 bikes back to back, you will not get over the TLR motor easily, you ride a 750 after a modded TLR, and you will be disapointed.
I have a good friend that had a 99 GSXR750, he slammed my bike for months, too heavy, GSXR is faster, etc. We traded bikes one night for a couple hours, less than 2 weeks later he sold his 750 and had a TLR, he loves it.

Ok, You guys have hit the mark on both bikes. Being I work at the suzuki shop, ill shed some light. the 02 TL is quiet heavy. For 03' its suppose to be lighter, more power, and have a face lift. The gixxer will own the TL stock for stock, But next year, it could be a different story. Ive ridden both, I love the way the TL rides, because of the low mid torque. it will roll into a wheelie really smooth, its a lot of a bike. For all out race, the gixxer 750 will take it, with an equally compatible rider. however the TL isnt all that slow, Ive topped one out at 174 mph, slightly modded (full yoshi exhaust and remapped), so its not far behind a 750, I say wait till next year, get the 03 TL.
