thinking about removing my bumper supports. anyone know if there are bumper cover issues when you remove these? ie: soggy/flappyness.
why remove?
That beeing said i can see it being an issue on the stock plastic pushpins holding up the bumper. upgrade those and if the bumper is rigid enough it should look perty.

Not sure about DC's, but on DA's you can't attach the covers to the car w/o the support. The cover bolts to the support, the support bolts to the car...
There are a couple fasteners which connect the cover to the car itself, but they aren't adequate to hold it in place w/o the support.
One option would be to cut up the stock supports to remove some weight. Or get yourself a set of the JDM supports which are purely used to mount the bumper, no crash resistance whatsoever.

the bumper cover does not bolt on to the bumper support in any way ( and when i say bumper support, i'm talking about that big bar that the bumper cover rests on.
I was thinking about making a light weight one by basically cutting the center of the bar out.. but that's pretty thick metal and i don't know wtf would cut it other than extreme amounts of elbow grease. I'd rather just remove the whole thing if i can.

IF this is true, then I don't quite understand....
1) It's called a bumper support. But it doesn't in any way "support" the bumper?
2) If the bumper doesn't bolt to it in any way, then the support wouldn't have anything to do with holding the cover to the car... thus, why would you ask about fitment w/o the support in place?
I'm confused.
I assume you're talking about the DC? I know on the DA the cover and support are bolted together and come off together.

I can confirm this, on my DA the bumper cover would not stay on without the bumper support.

DC, EG, EK
The bumper cover does not mount to the 'bumper support'. It should probably be called '5 mph crash bumper' instead of bumper support.
You can remove them with no ill effects, until you bump some one.
Most of the H1 guys run "custom" lite weight ones.

Thanks for clearing that up!

you guys have it all wrong. the beams themselves are the BUMPERs. the plastic that goes over it is called the BUMPER COVER. not bumper support, 5 mph crash bumper, get it strait. For your DC the bumpers will not sag and would be fine if you take the bumpers out. The front and rear bumpers do add support because they tie the ends of the frame rails together. that's one reason why ITRs have a rear support brace near the mounting points of the rear bumper.
The rear does tie the frame together, but you can still accomplish this by running a rear trunk bar. Uaually you would screw it into the holes in the trunk that go to the bumper, but once its out, there is room to get your hand in the frame rail to use bolts and nuts to hold it in.
If your concerned about the front being tied together, run a traction bar, or just the main beam of it, which connects at the location of the oem towhooks on the frame rails.
I have a question about the front one though. On ek's doesnt it support the headlights? Because their are brackets connected to the front beam that the lights rest on.
