I am having the same annoying problem right now... I give my cluster dash a smck and then it drops back down. been too lazy to pull it apart so I just keep smacking it!
check for a loose connection in the cluster.
Or either you need to bleed your coolant system..

if it gets hot when your giving it gas and then when you put it neutral or pull over it goes back down...its most likely a warped or cracked head...i had this same problem...with a d15b turbo

i dont think its that bad. cuz it doesnt get in the red ever just real close but not in. and it does cool down but only when i down shift or pull over and throw sum revs for sum reason.

It is more likely that you either have a bad ground, or broken heat sensor.
If you let off the gas, the revs come down. As does the current from the alt.
Check the grounds. Especially the main ground and the one on the thermostat.
If that doesn't solve anything, take the thermostat out, and put it in boiling water to see if it's still working right.

do you have heat wraped eg pipes? i was thinking of doing mine...
just some simple prob solvers

Is there an actual way to test the sensor to see if it works? I took my head off my b16 and installed a buddy club gasket on, car ran great after that but that dam needle started fluctuating. It's driving me crazy I'm paranoid thinking it's going to start heating up or worse heat up and not be able to tell.
