Default IS THIS A SAFE INTAKE???

hey guys, didnt have the money to buy a real carb legal intake so i managed to "create" one using the oem intake muffler parts. The first half is the oem part of the intake and the second half is a plastic pipe from the oem intake muffler. and the cone is k&n. is this safe to do? will it ruin my car anyway? thanks

btw, both ends are held tightly with clamps and the air filter is tie wrapped to the chasis so it wont move.

It's just fine but I'm not sure the cops will be ok with that. An intake is just a pipe with a filter on it. It wouldn't be safe if you happened to throw sand in it while creating it I have my intake similar to that.

i think he means, will it mess anything up, and id say no. An intake is just a filter and a pipe and thats what you have. As long as its sealed properly where nothing can get through, it should be fine.

Don't you know?? It's taken off to reduce weight so the car can handle better!

iono the car came like that wiitout the bar. yea as long as i have a front licencse plate cops shouldnt have a reason to ask me to pop my hood or pull me over since i drive normal all the time. i just got state ref like 3 weeks ago for having an intake with no carb sticker and it just got cleared at the court today. :-) didnt hafta pay a penny (except for court fees, $20)

dude its california... cops will pull you over just because you drive a honda and ask you to pop your hood! sure driving normal and having a front license plate will lessen your chances of getting pulled over, but in the long run it will happen.

lucky for you you have nothing to worry about, all you did was replace the drop in filter with a cone filter, no laws against that

Damn, thats why i love to live in CT no laws against engine modifications that could mess u up, plus cops dont ask to pop ur hoods at no time unless ur at the races.

if you're scurrred. pretty it up a little, brab the old box and figure out how to get your new filter in it

some of the knn truck kits come with a box, i have seen others where the filter is a cone shaped but encloased a little more than this

nice i remember when i was rocking that style intake blah i still need to get around to ordering one, i think im going to cut into the air box a little so i can fit the filter in there, maybe then i won't destroy filters so fast.

it looks like the tube is smaller than most aftermarket intakes which would make the engine work harder but it could just be the pic. i went to an a/c /heat and air duct place and got the piping for my intake. requires light modification but its worth it. after i fitted it i wrapped it in thermal heat wrap. sounds a little crazy buti def feel the improvements, and it sounds great and stays super cool

probally more then a stock air box... im sure that K&N filter is going to breath alot better then a stock drop in... even if the intake tube isnt that large.

East coast is where it's at............FOR NOW.....I am stationed in NC and they don't give a rats *** on what you do really. We have guys driving around without hoods and bumpers because they think its cool and the cops don't even bother them about it, if anything they just look to see what they have done to the car.....Only thing I have been harrassed about on the east coast is window tint and different colo lights...... Sorry to thread jack....

To the OP- Good job on the intake hope it works out for you.
