Default The Downside if the $50 Paint job thread

Well I have been searching around and found a TON of info on the $50 paint job. LOTS of other forums are really into this. Amongst all this info I noticed I had a hard time finding the downside of this cheap paint job. SO I am posting this thread expecting others to share their downsides of doing this job. Please share..

I wonder how long this stuff last myself, and am planning on doing my daily driver... the Cressida

The guy from the mopar forum that first started the paintjob said there was no fading. He had to repaint the fender of his beetle 7 years after the paintjob and it matched perfectly.

I'm just finishing mine btw, so I can't speak from experience on how long it lasts.

The type of paint being used, is of the same chemical nature as the type of paint used on boats. It's pretty durable stuff, and can last quite a long time.

I am either gonna go a darker Smoke Gray...Anodized Bronze color... or get as close as I can to a respray. I got lucky.. this one has the IRS, LSD, and the dual cam I6. But I am gonna just dump it...spray it.. tint it and drive it.

Thanks for the responses.... any long term users have any input?

i dont see anything going wrong on my $50pj. few months now and its still holding strong. only thing is when getting a real pj, sand all the rolled on paint off! or the real paint will bubble up (stated a friend that experienced it)

Well I was thinkin about that too... but since I am not doing a color change I do not think it will be an issue ..... just the outside

But what would happen if you tried to paint over this?

Yeah its two different types of paint.
Like what its made off.
So one will not work with the other.

please do

Well I am thinking of redoing my car white... since there would be no color change... only the outside would need to be done... DA sander could make some light work of it when it needs to come off

It doesn't harden like catalyst paint and it lasted a little over a year to a car that sat out in the weather uncared for. It flaked and weathered bad. It's very time consuming and doesn't have that depth of real paint. It can be painted over, i did it on the same car that weathered from sitting.

This was my first time painting from a gun and it also cost $50...for real single stage car paint. Add $40 for primer.

I'll take real paint in any situation over roller paint.

Add another hundred urethane single stage and that's where it's at.
