Default 91 CRX "virgin" bottoms out whenever I hit a dip in the road

Hi all,
New to this forum AND to Honda. I just got a 91 CRX in pretty good shape a few months ago. Everything appears to be in great shape and got it for a steal at $1500.
However, whenever I hit a good sized dip in the road, the left front bottoms out and I can hear the tire hitting the wheel well. In the past on other cars, I've replaced entire struts (spring and shock) as a whole unit. Is this kind of part available for the CRX or do I need to buy new dampers and new springs?
OR did the guy before me put on oversized tires?

Obviously the least amount of work to do...the better. Any ideas of what I should look at first? The car has ~170k miles.
Thank for the help and everyone on this site seems pretty cool!!

what size tires are on it now?
is the suspension still stock?
is it lowered?
did you do a search?
did you look to see if anything looked broken or out of place?
these are things we need to know

and what do you mean a "good sized dip"? my ef isn't lowered or anything but if i hit a giant sink hole i think it may also bottom out. try avoiding pot holes?

Your front struts are most likely bad.

You can purchase struts and springs seperately or go with a full coilover suspension.

good luck with your car & welcome to H0NDA-TECH!

Yes, still stock suspension
Not Lowered
I looked at Checker and saw seperate springs and shocks
yes I looked. Looks good under there

Again, I just want to get it in good working order. Springs and shocks you think?
Thanks
Todd

A street that I drive daily must have bentonite soil because this street dips up and down and up and down. No other car I have does this on this street. If I had no contact with a "dippy" street, I may not have even noticed this. And yes I avoid potholes at all costs. And with this little CRX "go cart" it's rather fun avoiding all the holes.
Thanks

you should just get new suspension all around. 20 or so years and something is bound to wear out

Well,
Thanks for all the info. I was afraid I was going to have to replace this stuff. Suddenly my $1500 "deal" isn't such a deal, huh? JK
I love this little car....and at 51 I never thought I'd like a little car again! Yay Honda!!

before spending money, check to see if the front uca's have been installed on the proper side of the car. "flipped" uca's (left to right or right to left) may cause this problem on a lowered car, but you said it was virgin so ?????? good luck....

most of the time new springs are not needed unless they look dangerously rusty. just get new struts. but a forewarning, the lower bolts that hold the shocks on are notorious for getting seized or broken during removal.

Thanks Jimmy. I may just go ahead and get new springs so I don't have to worry about that. I think their $55 each...no biggie!
Thanks...I appreciate it!
