1989 Honda Civic Hatchback - SCCA ITC and NASA H5 Prepped Ready to Run Racecar
1989 ITC / H5 Civic Std. HB w/ 90,000 miles on chassis
This car is a perfect starter car for the amateur racer. It is an excellent platform for the someone to aspire to get their competition racing license and race in the SCCA ITC or NASA Honda Challenge H5 class (or with other regional groups). It is also one of the cheapest and most reliable ways to get into this sport. I bought it for that sole reason - and loved every minute of it. Car is well sorted mechanically and reliable so that you do not have to wrench on it in the pits - just basic work and kicking back and relaxing. Other than some body work on the right rear quarter panel (which does not adversely affect the inspection or performance of the car) it's ready to run and you will have a blast. I am a well known and respected racer in my area and can provide references and independent evaluation of the car's shape.
Car's Accomplishments:
2004 Midwest Honda Challenge H5 Champion (driven by Sam Myers)
2005 Midwest Honda Challenge H5 Champion (driven by Sam Myers)
Track records in H5 at Gateway and Hastings in 2008
Can be seen in the Dec 2005 issue of Grass Roots Motorsports.
SCCA Logbook (2007) and passed SCCA Annual Inspection March 2007
NASA Logbook (2008) and passed NASA Annual Inspection 4/26/2008
No Title:
I purchased the car 3 years ago without the tile. I bought it from someone who bought it to get started but just put it in storage for several months. This person then proceeded to lose all the paperwork and log books and seat belts - but didn't notify me until delivery (owner was from TX). I had to painstakingly have all the inspections and new logbooks completed but never went to get a Title as I never drove it on the street and trailered it to all events.
Turnkey Racecar:
I also spend thousands of dollars getting the car corner balanced, thoroughly inspected and all mechanical repairs done professionally. This car is truly a turnkey racecar. This car is not street legal and it will take a lot of money and effort in order to get it to that point.
Engine & Drivetrain:
89 D15B1 bottom end bored .040 over

Speed:
1:42 at Hallet
1:59 at MAM

1:51 at Hastings (track record for H5)
Mechanically Sound:
This car has been well cared after (stored in secure covered garage) and maintained by KC Raceware by Charlie Clark (SCCA E Production racer and shop owner).
Some Body Damage:
The only bad about this car is it has some damage to the passenger rear quarter panel from previous racing incident (not me!). Car has passed logbook and track tech inspections (4/2008) and is not a structural issue by SCCA or NASA technicians. I never got around to replacing it with a new quarter panel.
