Default Is this ok (A/C ?)

(89 civic) I want to retro my system but I think there might be a leak. Right now the system has no refrigerant. I wanted to know if It would be alright to just put in 134a without changing the receiver dryer or evacuating the air. I just want to see if the compressor is working and try to find any leaks. Once I know the system is ok, then I would go about the retro. The reason why I ask is that I don't have a vacuum pump and would rather not pay to have a shop evacuate my system more than once.

nope, if you want to test it you'll have to pull a vaccum on the lines before charging them
