Default DIY Dash back light bulb in EK

Well I was bored and saw that people were whining in the other DIY dash back light thread about how to do it in an EK, so i decided to do another thread with pics.

Items you will need
-Phillips screw driver
-4 24 bulbs
-1 194 bulb

I bought some 24 natural amber bulbs and used testors brand transparent candy apple red spray paint to paint them (you can use what ever color you want but i would recomend it be the transparent paint, I used regular paint on a set of bulbs and it didn't work out as well.). I also bought a 194 bulb that was already red.

When you paint the bulbs wrap some masking tape around the wedge on the bulb so you don't get paint on the wore connector of the bulb. Let the bulbs dry for about a day or so, the bulbs get hot and if the paint is not dry enough on the bulb it will melt from the heat.

Start taking apart the dash cluster by removing the 2 screws at the top of the bezel trim.

Second remove the 4 screws that hold the cluster bezel to the dash.

Third remove the 4 24 bulbs and the 194 bulb and replace them with the new colored bulbs.

Then put the cluster back together in the reverse direction of of the removal process.

Your finished product will look like this!!

I left the 2 bulbs at the top un painted but you may paint those as well if you choose, 1 will be connected to the 194 bulb by a wire and the other will be across the cluster from that.

Keep in mind that this was from a 96 ex coupe I am not sure how it goes with other years and models.

In all it probally took all of 10-15 minutes to take it all apart and put it back together.

I spy with my lil eyes major light spots. Probably that red bulb you bought and didnt paint, Its darker right where the 194 bulb goes.

Looks pretty good

I did this exact same thing to my cluster, the only difference being that i went to a junkyard and got replacement bulbs, then painted them with a red paint marker from Michaels, and it worked a lot better than i thought it would.
