car makes loud scracth noise when trying to start...help
i have a 94 accord automatic and a couple of weeks ago i was driving and when i came to a stop the car started smoking... i thought it was over heating but my temp. gauge was reading normal... then i tried to pull over and when i gave it gas it turned off.... then when i tried to start up it just made a screcthing noise... well i got home and tried to pull out spark plugs wires...well they were melted BIG TIME... so i replaced plugs and wires but still nothing plz help...
If you're melting plugs you got a serious problem. A vehicle's core temp should NEVER ever run that hot. Check the thermostat and make sure large ammounts of oil aren't leaking into your head and cylinders.
Possibly the throw out bearing has failed, however, on further thought there are a couple of items to check. The starter bendix could have failed or possibly the ring gear on your flywheel.

If you melted your spark plug wires, you overheated the engine and it is junk. The timing covers are probably melted too. Don't even bother trying diagnose why it overheated; it's too late. Sell the car or replace the engine.
