2006 Honda CBR 1000 rr
I am considering buying a red Honda CBR 1000 rr 2006. It has about 10,000 miles on it and costs about 6500 dollars. I know if taken care of properly it probably can last up to 50,000 miles but does anyone have any experience with this particular bike and this year of make? Anything particularly bad or good of it from its previous year?
Get the rr it'll run forever, and it has like 50 more horsepower than the 848.
If your use to the power from that r1 youd probably be dissapointed in the
ducati, and I have always wanted a ducati also just don't want to be maintaining it
all the time, rather be riding.

try like 200,000 miles
50000 is nothing lol
a common misconception is that bike motors dont last long
i have a friend with that bike. Its a great bike, very nimble. Both he and i would much rather have the 08 1krr though

i think everyone wants an 08 1krr
by the way there was a news carrier over in europe who got 400k on his vfr, pulled the engine, got a brand new engine and put 420k on that one before it went. as long as you change your oil frequently and religiously adjust your valves, engines can last a long time, especially gear driven honda engines and airhead bmws.

how often u supposed to adjust your valves? im gone over 11000 miles on my 600RR and im hearing a tapping/rattling sound now, this sound familiar?
so adjusting the valves means changing those shims?? i can do this with the engine in the bike? but would you recommend the whole seating and lapping process at this stage too?
(sorry im just too lazy to look at the manual now!)

you can get away with not doing your valves on non desmo-valves (non-ducatis) and have the bike run to 100,000 miles with only changing the oil. Will it likely run better if you do the valves too? Of course.

yeah the manual says inspect the valve clearances at 16000 miles, but i could live without this new tapping/rattling sound im hearing!
if im getting that sound at 11000 miles does that mean my bikes mileage was false when i bought it, or its normal to hear this? is it the sound of impending camshaft wear? should i be worried about riding my bike flat out?

To the OP: I own an '06 1000RR that I rode on the streets for a year, then she went to full track duty. The bike is a great bike, very tractable powerband, and handles well. Out of the box, the steering is a little slow, and the electronic steering damper works great on the street, but not so great for the track. They also crash well, just so you know.
If you end up getting it, there's really no surprises about it. Keep on your maintenance, and you'll find the bike much more enjoyable if you set your rider sag and adjust your damping a little, even if you don't go to the track.
If there's anything else you'd like to know, shoot me a PM.
