Default erratic timing (yes...timing)

went to have my car checked coz it was stumbling and had horrible mileage. the shop hooked the engine up to a machine and the timing was going from 15 to 13 to 14 so he adjusted the dizzy to advance the timing but now the timing goes from 16 to 18 to 17 and wont stay still. what the hell is wrong with my engine?

even with the timing gun/light you could actually see the timing fluctuate.

cliff notes:

horrible gas mileage(similar to an evo from what i heard)
idle fluctuates, doesnt stay still
had 3 codes: code 10, code 21, code 6 but after resetting the ecu went away.

Well the timing is fluctuating because the revs are moving up and down. You should never adjust your timing unless your engine is at a smooth undisturbed idle. All equipment/accessories should be turned off. Your mechanic should know better. Is your mechanic a real mechanic?

You seem to have other problems besides ignition timing issues.

dude, get teh cel's shut off first. just cuz they went away doesnt mean theyre fixed. it might be out of time also, when was the last time you put a timing belt on it?

timing belt was replaced just 3000miles ago.

well the cel has not returned for 3weeks now but i still have bad gas mileage. im gonna try to clean mu iacv or maybe even replace it.

well, the mechanic aint really my mechanic. he was actually telling me that the code10 which came out was actually code1. it was a long blink around a second long and not a short quick flash. is he right?

Long blink is 10. Code 1 would be a short blink, which I think would mean your ECU is toast. Read my thread on my gas mileage improvement

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2366274

I went from 19-20 MPG to 40.92 MPG. I was jumping like a little sissy girl when I found out my latest gas mileage after the intake manifold cleaning. Yours may be a different issue, but mine was a pretty badly clogged intake manifold.
