Any DIY write ups out there for installing coilovers/shocks on my 4th gen lude?
I bought a used set of 4 tokico shocks/struts that are mounted on GroundControl Coilovers.
I've never done suspension work before and am looking forward to learning something new while working on this.
Can anyone offer any kinda DIY or basic information on how this job is done?
Since the coilovers are already mounted on the shocks i was told it should be a fairly easy install by the person i bought them from.
Since they're already 'on there' I wasn't sure if i'll end up needing a spring compressor or not.
Has anyone ever rented one from an auto parts store? what is the usual policy on rentals?
Thanks guys.

No you don't need a spring compressor, in your case. Just take out the old and put the new in. Then just adjust the height to your specs. Try searching next time.... http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fift...shtml
i found that diy already but i didn't know how it would apply to what I have.
thats a spring installation, I have what you see in the pics, springs sitting on struts. i can't figure out when the 'pressure, or the weight' goes onto the springs that i'd have to be concerned with.
can i just bolt these on and the pressure comes from putting the car back on the ground?

Use that DIY to take off your old suspension and put the new one....What you bought is already assembled, so all you do is put it on your car.
Ground Controls are coilover sleeves. So yes, once you lower the car, the springs will seat correctly.

hi, yeah, it is just bolt on, it is very easy, I would get a friend to help you tho, it would be kinda hard if you do it on ur own, also, i would recommend using a torque wrench and/or impact wrench if you have a older car , it would be hacka hard to loosen ur bolt without them, torque wrench is cheaper, about 30$??? I also recommend using liquid wrench and spray it on the bolt and let it sit overnight, so it can eat the rust. It should take you around 6-8hrs, that is how long i took.
