Problem with my 94 CX automatic beater, wont come out of park!?!?!?
So I went to the store saturday night, picked up some things (car drove fine like usual on the way there) I came out of the store, started the car, went to leave but it wouldnt come out of park...
I noticed that my brake lights wouldnt come on when the brake pedal was pressed, and obviously she wouldnt come out of park. I put my spare key in the Shift Lock Release hole, and was able to get it out of park and drive it home, but no brakelights the whole way.
Any suggestions? This is my first automatic, so Im very unfimiliar with the way thier transmissions work. Possibly just a fuse or relay? Thanks in advance for help!

There's two switches at the bottom that the brake pedal presses when depressed.
One is the cruise control kill switch, which shuts off your cruise control when you hit the brake.
The other is your basic "brake sensor" - which activates the brake lights and disables the park safety switch when you depress the brake pedal.
The brake sensor is bad. It's a very cheap and easy part to change. Swap that out and you should be golden - unless it's the wiring to the sensor - but you get the idea.
All it is is a lil cylinder thing with a plunger type button that when depressed completes the circuit.

EDIT:
PS: What kind of gas mileage do you get with those things? I've noticed that the auto civics get better gas mileage than the manuals on the highway (not around town), and seeing as it's a B8 and all, I didn't even know they made the B8 with an auto trans - you gotta be pullin like mid 50's on the highway, no?
PSS:
As far as that part goes:
It's #17 in this diagram:

http://slhondaparts.com/browse...0-A03
As you can see, a 15 dollar part from OEM Honda.
Sorry for the confusion, there's only one sensor under there. I was thinking of the clutch pedal (that has 2 sensors, one for the cruise control kill, one for the starter kill).

Nice Ill see ya there! As for my mileage...
I honestly think I got more gas mileage out of my LS swapped hatch before I turboed it... BUT, I do think that I might need a new map sensor or a new fuel filter. Shes definatley in the 30's, but honestly with how much that thing likes to stay in higher rpms when cruising I dont see it hitting the 50's. Who knows though, shes the beater so i dont worry too much about her. 221K on its original motor and trans, doesnt burn oil, and this sensor is the first problem Ive had with it (minus minor stupid crap, exhaust leaks etc)
EDIT!!!!!
I didnt notice you specified highway mileage lol! Highway its pretty good. My downfall though is that most of my driving is around town, I dont hit any highways much. But I took a 6 hour trip to P.A. this past summer and I got there on a full tank, I think the trip was about 275 miles, about 1/2 of it was towns and crap.

Ah, I see.
I really don't think that's the orig trans though - even when I looked the part up on slhondaparts.com it didn't even give me a choice of auto or man on the trans selection for a '94 CX. Though I haven't seen a man to auto conversion recently, but never-the-less, a B8 with an auto trans is a good damn setup if you need to make a 100 mile commute to work every day or something. So it's possible a past owner did that...or it's possible I've just never heard of an OEM auto trans on a B8 until now
.
Though there's no way to tell each other apart at the meet. Gonna have to go around wearing a viper avatar strapped to my face
.
I know one guy there is going to have a black, boosted sol, he goes to RIT too. And another guy (think the guy who started the thread link in my signature) I think is gonna have a red TL or something.
*shrugs*
I doubt I'll see anybody there who I talk to / meet online, lol.

Here in canada we got automatic CX's, they, along with all canadian market 5th gen CXs came with D15B7s though, automatics also had power steering.

Yeah, but I think OP is in America.
Ur CX is really a DX...well a USDM DX, anyways. Canada's a bit off on trim codes
.
So if ur CX is our DX...
and your Si is our EX..
and your SiR is our Si..
A) What's your version of our CX?
B) What's our version of your SiR?

Holy ****, did you even read his original post?
The fuse is NOT the problem, and if you're blowing fuses there's a BIGGER problem.
Stop posting, before you infect the rest of the sanity in this topic.
PS:
He couldn't get it out of park, either. Park safety switch is the same as the brake light switch, since neither works, it's obviously the brake switch, or the wiring to the brake switch.

A) Our 5th gen CX is the same as the US, except it came with a D15B7, we never got a D15B8 in canada in anything. Our CXs also didn't come with airbags or an upshift light. So essentially is marginally lighter with about 32hp on the US version which equals a surprisingly snappy little car right from the factory.

There we go, 10 posts later my question is answered

EDIT:
So excluding the weirdos (GX and HX), you guys basically have everything bumped up one until you get to the top where it overflows. Then you guys do what Canada does best. You tach an R onto it

Does your EX have a Y7 or B7?
I'm feeling we're getting cheated out of an engine here due to the lack of B8

Lol!!!!! What the heck did I miss!?!?!?
To possibly clear up some of the questions referring to my car and the canadian market...
My car has a "Made in Canada" tag on the radiator support. It also has power steering, but no CC and it has manual windows, it also has AC. I havent owned the car all of its life, but most of it (3rd owner, second owner was a friend of mine) I didnt meet my friend till after he already had the car for a little while, and back at that time the origin of the car wasnt at the top of my list of questions, just as long as it ran lol! So, it might be possible that it was originally a canadian car. This is what happens when canadians and americans interbreed lol! (j/k) Canada's cool in my book. Free healthcare and the Tragically Hip!
EDIT: Oh, I ordered the new switch earlier, itll be here tomorrow so we'll see if that takes care of the problem.

To possibly clear up some of the questions referring to my car and the canadian market...
My car has a "Made in Canada" tag on the radiator support. It also has power steering, but no CC and it has manual windows, it also has AC..</TD></TR></TABLE>
Where the car was made has nothing to do with it being a canadian or US car. My civic was made in japan, but it was built for the canadian market. we got daytime running lights on all models, thats a good giveaway, we also didn't get airbags in CXs, thats another clue. There should also be a transport canada sticker inside the door jam.

I figured so.
Maybe there is a glitch with those honda parts places? (HAP does the same thing, wont let you select an automatic for the CX model) Might be something that they over looked when making the site. In the picture above, it does show the automatic counterpart next to the "selected" manual part. I know that mine isnt the only 94 automatic cx out there. So maybe it is original and the parts places just didnt put it in a seperate categorey and has both auto and manual on each picture for sake of saving website space??? That could explain it.

BACK ON TOPIC THOUGH...
Put the new switch in just now, no fix...
However, I cleaned the block a little, and it does have the B7, so it might be a DX after all. None the less, the new switch didnt help. Any more suggestions???

as for ur problem for ur tranny not shifting out of park. A shift-interlock-equipped car that won’t shift out of
Park may have a bad throttle position (TP) sensor.
Measure the TP sensor voltage at idle (refer to section
11 of the appropriate S/M); it should be 0.5 V. If the TP
sensor voltage is 0.7 V or more, the shift interlock
system won’t let you shift the transmission out of Park.
(This won’t cause a PGM-FI code; the ECM just thinks
the throttle is open slightly.) If the TP sensor is at fault,
replace the throttle body.
I hope this will help!

Open or short in the wiring, check the fuse under the hood labled stop/horn, see if its blown, not sure if that fuse is blown if it will still come out of park or if just the brake lights are affected.

Bringing this back from the dead because I finally fixed the damn thing lol, and I figured that it might be helpful to someone else in the future! It was one of the wires going to the brakelight switch (as suggested earlier,) it wasnt getting power. I ran a new wire to it from a remote power source (only power when car is on) and she works fine now lol! F-ing automatics!
