How about you have a scan tool retrieve the DTC? That should lead you in the right direction.

The PCM performs diagnostics on the vehicle all the time. When it see's a problem it sets a DTC. It stands for diagnostic trouble code. A scan tool that is OBD2 compliant can retrieve the DTC and tell you which one it is. The actual DTC will tell you the system that the PCM say a problem with. THEN you troubleshoot that DTC. Remember, just because a DTC might say a problem with an O2 sensor for example, it doesnt mean the sensor is bad. Just that it saw a problem with that system.

Problem solved! I put this on and never got a CEL again. It's a one-piece defouler that takes the hassle of having to drill into the two-piece set that most auto parts stores sell. Make sure you plug it into the SECONDARY O2 sensor and disconnect the battery before you do it.

A race header doesn't cause the car to run lean. If that were the case I would have thrown a CEL a long time ago.

i didnt say that.

i said the code will be for running lean. due to the higher airflow and bigger diameter it tricks the sensors into thinking its running lean, causing the mil.

Yes you did.

The MAF sensor on the vehicle adjusts the A/F ratio for the increase in airflow.

tricks what sensors into thinking it's running lean? There's only one that measures A/F ratio, the O2 sensor.

sort of. The MAF recognizes increases (or decreases) in airflow and the computer, using that input and the input from the O2 sensor, can then adjust fuel accordingly.

Yeah that's what i meant. Forgot that part about the computer doing the actual adjusting.

I am referring to the o2 sensors, after i installed my random technology high flow cat, I through a mil. since i work at honda, i hooked her up to the tablet and the code that was thrown was running lean. i reset it and it hasnt come back since....

this is the reason for my initial post. trying to be helpful.

RICO_ you having a bad week? take it out on someone else. you already got my dyno thread locked for talking **** to that asshat about e-racing.

School just started. Of course I'm having a bad week. Not taking anything out on you.......yet. Just correcting you that's all. A race header and a header with a high flow cat are two different things. The way I understood it to be was that (and someone correct me if i'm wrong) the Intake and MAF sensor is the prime factor in determining if the car runs lean or rich since it detects the airflow coming INTO the engine and relays it to the computer. I would assume the CEL caused by high flow cats and deleted cats is due to the fact that the main purpose of the secondary O2 on the catalytic converter is to ensure that there is a functioning cat. And since without the cat or with a high flow cat it reads the same exhaust flow (or close to it) it relays that info to the computer and the computer thinks there is a bad catalytic converter....therefore causing the CEL.

Actually HE got it locked for trying to argue with ME. He wanted to be a smartass to me besides the fact that he didn't even OWN a civic and had no place in this forum or in that thread.

Blame him buddy! Not me.

Should work out just fine. just remember to put it into the SECONDARY O2 sensor spot...the one on the catalytic converter and disconnect the battery before you do so.

Let the car idle for about 10-15 minutes after the install is done.

K but only under a few circumstances.

I get to pick the room. Must be at the Marriott. And I pick the chics. And there must be two beds. One for me and the two chics.......the other for him to sit on and watch.

I must hear Siv's demands before I (the Judge/Referee) decide who gets what!
