Default Buy a transmission or rebuild it

Something went wrong with my transmission and I got a mechanic to check it out. He said its something internal thats wrong with the transmission and said I should do a transmission overhaul(rebuild transmission) so I have a question should I rebuild it or just get another one.

those 78 accord transmissions are really easy to rebuild, but I don't know where you would find a replacement.

Hey man see your from Sobo. Cool. Where did you take the car to get it checked out? I probably would rebuild it if you trust the shop doing it.

Getting a used tranny will prob. run for $300 for the tranny and another $300-400 for installation

is this thing auto or manual?!!?!?!

manual tranny is easier to rebuild, thus less money.

Either way, if u get a used one, theres no way to know the exact condition of it. If you have the money, just get it rebuilt, that way you will have a warranty, and you know it will be like new inside.

somewhere between $5-50,000. Any more then 50K and your getting riped off hard core.

Why are people so lazy? Cant you pick up a phone book and call some people for yourself? I mean, honestly, not to sound like an ***, but you went to a shop and they said the tranny was [freak]ed, so why wouldent u get a quote either way. With that said, why wouldent you go and look into other shops and see who has a better deal, or who does better work. I am in canada, so I can tell you a price up here, but it would be way off. I would also assume that prices would vary from state to state so why not just look into it yourself?

Okay one this is a honda forum where if you have a question about your honda there are people out here to help, not come up with irrelavant questions. Two Im looking in rebuilding it myself and do to a slow economy I just thought I would ask so I would know money wise. Once again for the slow and impaired this is a honda forum where you ask questions for technical resources so excuse me sir or ma'mm if you are mad at someone dont take it out on people in the honda forum.

Thankyou to the other honda bloggers that have gave me good answers through out the days

you can NOT rebuild an automatic transmission yourself, I guarantee it.

Not being an *******, its just truth.

ETA: This is a technical forum, thus the questions should be tech related. Not "I am too lazy to pick up a phone and call for quotes"

Theres a diffrence between asking how to rebuild the tranny, and how much it will cost etc.

Not meaning to jump all over you but...... You would get an answer to your question regarding cost a lot quicker if you used the phone book. If you don't have a phone book Yellow Pages online works for me.

It took me less than a minute to find a few automatic transmission related listings in the your area.
Click here & give one of them a call.
