valve tapping!! after I couldnt adjust valve HELP!!
just did my timing belt, balance belt, water pump and some seals, on 94 accord f22b1 vtec heard it was a good idea to check valve clearance when valve cover was off. started checking the gaps and realized about 3 exhaust valves had no gap as well as 1 of the intake. broke loose the locknut on 1 of the exhaust valves and tryed adjusting to get a gap .030 but the valve just moved with the rocker arm when it adjusted up, I dont know what this means??? I was out of time so I tightened it back down to torque specs and put it back together, figured I would do some research first. Now I have a loud tapping noise that sounds like its coming from the exact valve that wouldnt adjust to a gap, IM clueless!!! please HELP dont want to do any engine damage just spent 2 days doing the complete timing package.

Sounds like you need to do a little research. When the engine is at top dead center, you adjust the #1 cylinder valves. You rotate the engine 180 degrees counterclockwise and adjust the #3 cylinder. Another 180, adjust the #4 cylinder. You get the idea.
Did you adjust the exhaust valve to 0.030" or 0.30mm? Huge difference.
Intake spec: 0.26 mm (0.010 in.)+/-0.02 mm
Exhaust spec: 0.30 mm (0.012 in.)+/-0.02 mm

I had done the the research but I was interpreting the information incorrectly. Not having any knowledge of valves or adjustment I didnt realize you are only supposed to adjust the valves for the corresponding cylinder. I was using the pdf copy of the 94 honda accord shop manual for instructions but thought it was saying adjust all valves for each cylinder position, not each cylinders valves at cylinders tdc, luckily I didnt do that- I stopped after breaking a nut loose on 1 valve that wasnt supposed to be adjusted on cylinder 1 and after not getting any gap putting it at a guessed setting and not touching any other valve. I assume this is why its tapping, I most likely adjusted a valve way out of spec on doing this. I posted the topic in a hurry but I do know the proper specs. Thanks for changing my interpretation, guess its garage time again
