Default 89 CRX Si with B18A1 swap just turning off while driving...

89 CRX Si with B18A1 swap, just turning off while driving...

...usually on the freeway or after getting off of the freeway my car just turns off. No engine light or code just turns off. Sometimes it takes like 5 minutes to start back up sometimes right away. Does anyone have an idea or a direction I should head with this. I had a thought that since my tranny is running hot due to a axle seal leek n prolly no fluid by now and having no heater core, vents, fan nothin, that my ECU was getting all the heat from the firewall and just turning off... I have no idea really maybe even a bad ECU. help!?

Whats up man, I had a similar problem in my 89 b16a hatch. Check the ignition switch.
I bought a new 1 threw Honda it cost me like 60.00 to fix. I would just be driving and my car would just shut off, if that don't work check the main relay good luck

It sounds like a heat issue. My budy has the same problem in his 89 sedan. WHen ever it gets hot theres something i cant remember what but maybe a relay or something under the dash that gets extremley hot. And it wouldnt let his car turn on.

Hey dude...i got a question..are you happy with ur swap? Im building mines up now. Its a 89 sedan lx. Im putting the b18a1 in it. Im not really pressed on high numnbers so iwas gonna put 10-12 lbs of boost on it. Stock internals...and rebuilt bottom end. What is ur setup?

my setup is completely stock. Not really happy with it but then again it has a long story and has been dubbed so close.

I had to rebuild the bottom end, main bearings, rod bearings thrust washers and crank all back to OEM cause of cost issues. still have an axle seal leak and cam shaft seal leaks and a bad valve tic. also was kinda in a hurry doin the swap transfer from engine OBD1 to OBD0 that i just grabbed some accord injectors not sure if it makes a big deal but will find out when i can get new ones. all in all i cant really be happy with it cause it is not steady yet. for sure the ls tranny is long and simply put boring so I will be swappin to a b16 tranny soon and also going to find a b16 head instead of rebuilding my ls head... VTEC will greatly increase your horse power LOL! 1/4 ran a 15.8 pretty upset about that cause my friend runnin a 89 crx HF with a ZC swap was running the same times. I will post more as i go..

To everyone else that posted thank you. same things i was thinkin with a hot relay. the ignition swith is a new thought and i will look into that for sure. thank you. anyone else have ideas feel free to post em.

one more thing, a pop when stopping hard is a bad ball joint right? I already checked for a loose caliper n rad rod, not it. anyone know about that?

Replace your main relay with a known good one and see if that fixes the problem...
