Default torque spec uncertainty.

i'm torquing down the main cap bridge on an F23A1. according to the haynes manual the main cap bolts are 56 ft.lbs and that's fine... but the 10mm bolts around the outer edge are listed as 36ft.lbs. it feels like they're about to break as i'm going down tight with them. i really don't want to have to try to get a broken bolt out of my nice new block...

can anyone confirm this spec?

yeah, that was my first thought... but it said "...in ft.lbs unless otherwise specified"

it may be time to get that Chiltons...

The Baffle Plate bolts?? #33 ? ?
They should be 8.7-9 ftlbs
You might want to pick out the bolts on the picture for clarification.

this is not what i have.

here is what i am looking at..

this is the main caps and maincap bridge. you can see the bolt hole flange at the bottom of the image. this is where the bolts are

here you can see the underside with the bridge and caps on the block. the large holes are main bolts, smaller ten in line with main caps are the bolt locations in question.

here is a suplemental view of the bridge on the block.

i know the torque wrench is a cheapo-cheap one, 25-250ft.lbs. Am i getting too close to the lower range? i've got a buddy i may be able to borrow a vary fancy digital wrench... maybe that's the problem

yeah, oil was on there. however that would make them torque down sooner not later.

Please get a Helms manual. Haynes and Chiltons are both made by the same crappy (compared to a Helms) company.

Helminc.com = OEM Honda shop manuals and correct specifications for everything.
