i didn't see anywhere in his post him say he can get people discounts, that seems to be an assumption people have made.
welcome

Alright, I have a question. I'm looking at buying my first new bike. Not my first bike ever, but my first new bike. Which dealer fee's are bullshit and which are real?
I mean I want to buy a DRZ400SM but the dealer I went to said "Just under $8,000 out the door.". Considering the MSRP is $6,199 I'd like to think I can get it for about $7,000.
I understand taxes, but shipping and prep and who knows what else. Just looking for advice on buying new and what I should be paying. Keep in mind, I'm in southern california so I'll still be reemed a bit on the price.

well to be honest most dealer fees are bullshit...
setup fee shouldn't exceed 150-200 depending on your location
you will have your normal tax, tag, title, setup and a small dealer fee... if they try to hit you with some outrageous dealer fee like $500 walk the [freak] out, and literally tell the sales man or F&I person that its complete bullshit and you will find the bike else where... don't be afraid to actually get up and walk out the door.. by this time the dealer already has your information and your phone number he will either stop you before you get to the door or let you walk and then call you an hr later saying "they talked to the manager and blah blah blah"
you should also see a fee for tire and battery makes sure you know what your state charges for these most bike dealers nail you for 4 tires on the bike deal and not 2 just thinkin you're not gonna catch it...
and when the deal is done make sure they filled the tank up for you... its just common courtesy
they key is to do some research before you actually buy it... go to a couple of dealers check everyones dealer fees and when you find the lowest go with they and then tear them down a lil more trust me they are making plenty off the deal

great info, i didnt even know about that tire thing. walking out is probably the greatest negotiation tool, also, if you are under 20 years old, it will help to bring your mom or dad if you can. some sales people will try and take advantage of your age, regardless of if you are paying with your money or know exactly how to deal. when i bought my car, i knew i wasn't getting the respect i should, brought my dad in and all he did was sit there, the dealer took their original offer down 1K, then we walked out and the sales man ran out as we were driving out and we got the price we wanted. im not sure if it works the same for bikes at dealers but for cars, if you go at the end of the month sales people will be more likely to deal because they have to make their quota.

I wouldn't pay over MSRP. The dealer is still making $$ when they sell at msrp so have cash in hand and if you can talk you can make a deal
