Default >>Couple issues w/ my aging Si (floppy mirror, saggy seatbelts)<<

I am getting frustrated with some of the issues that seem to come with age on EFs and would like some suggestions, if you guys have any, on how to fix them.

1) The Floppy Rearview Mirror

I have fooled with it quite a bit, but nothing seems to improve its holding ability. Any little bump in the road send my mirror pointing toward the floorboard. It is completely useless. I would like to use my broadway mirror, but the extra weight means I can't even get my mirror to point where I want when the car is parked.

2) The Sagging Seatbelts

I understand that this is a very common issue with EFs with belts on the door. I have dings and rips in the door material because the sagging belt gets trapped when I close the door. It's really aggravating. How do I get it to tighten back up quickly and crisply.

I might add a couple more here and there. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

And here is a pic so you will click and look and help me out!

Not a fan of theirs, btw.

Default FV-QR

I have that same shaking/vibrating in the mirror at idle... until the mirror just falls to where it is pointed straight down. I think the vibrating is related to my window-welded motor mounts.

selt belts should be able to be replaced by honda, they have a lifetime warranty. you may to be able to get another mirror from a dismantler/ pick your part yard or you may be able to get a new one from honda.

I am pretty sure honda does replace the belts. But then again I think they may only replace them if there is a safety issue with them. IDK, either way I have the same problem with the belts...

Wow... This should be called "ef owners pet peeves"

I hate that seatbelt ****, I recently had two PERFECT door panels on my crx when thr belt decided not to go up one time, probably to spite me. And now I got one small tear in my panel. BASTARDS!

But ya, I've always wanted to open my door panel and see the belt rolling mechanism. I'll look into it when I remove my door panel soon.

Good luck! And subscribed.

Harmonator-
I just had my belts replaced on my 92 hatch with no problem, they worked great but were all slutted out and wouldn't take up. Honda ordered them and replaced them all for free. As long as you can show that the belt isn't working like it was designed to, they will replace it (unless your service manager is just a real ********, in which case you can take it to the Honda shop in the next town over) I used to work at the local one here back in 2000-2001 and we had replaced belts for stupider stuff than not taking up when released.

Do they attach in the same manner? I have a 97 sedan. I am going to try and swap 'em real quick.

My Honda dealer said I would have to pay labor to have my seatbelts replaced in my crx. They were sorta jerks to me too. For me, the most annoying wear issue is the driver's seat!! Its torn to hell! (big surprise) I know alot of seats are out there for sale and such, but its hard to find a clean one, and a decent deal. And to buy it from myhondapartsstore its like over 300 bucks! I could get a sparco speed for that! (Sorry if Ive gone off topic here!)

hey, I have a rex, belts work fine. I didn't know Honda did this. Do you think thy replace belts for free on all Hondas, I have an 87 prelude, and the belts don't roll up or grab when I brake.

Update with the mirror issue:

Due to the advice by EFstyle, I took the rearview out of my 97 sedan that doesn't run and is sitting in my driveway and HOLY CRAP! It is a direct fit. I took the little cover plate off the back and tightened it up a bit, too.

IT WORKED GREAT! Excellent fix and great info for everyone who hates their floppy mirrors!

I will also call my local Honda dealer to see about the seatbelt deal. Thanks for that bit of info. I will also update this thread when I get news on that.
