Default installing bushing help.

I got my rear disc conversion and the bushing were shot so i got a set of energy poly bushing and in the directions it says you need a 4 1/2inch bolt with a 2 3 1/4inch washers to push them in place. Now my questions is it safe to use a presser on the new bushing or will it damage them? because I can't find a washer that size anywhere

You're not putting in poly trailing arm bushings are you? Those will bind up and are generally a bad idea.

I know of a thread by an ITR owner that pulled out poly RTA bushings and installed new stock rubber RTA bushings, and reported MUCH better handling on the track.

why is it a bad idea? I thought having stiffer bushing is suspose to be better.

Because when the rear trailing arm moves through its range of motion, it rotates both side-to-side and up-and-down. This requires the big RTA bushing to flex in 2 directions. Polyurethane will really only allow it to move in one direction (usually only up-and-down), which causes the suspension to bind when it tried to compress or extend. This results in adverse affects on handling.

Read in this thread about how the guy states his car handled much better w/ Mugen rubber bushings instead of the ES poly RTA bushings.

The best option for mostly TRACK use would be spherical RTA bushings. Those aren't really intended for street use and don't really hold up to the whole range of weather and road grit, etc. from a daily driven vehicle.
