Drain the fuel, install the correct fuel, replace your fuel filter, install new spark plugs and pray.

x3. I thought the diesel nozzles were larger than the petrol ones, therefore wouldn't fit thus avoiding mix ups. I guess not. Good luck.

Since the fuels system is returnless I would think you could drain the fuel tank completeley fill it up with fuel remove the fuel rail and cycle the ignition without cranking it. The fuel pump primes everytime you turn the key to ACC and this would flush the fuel line without having to replace the filter.

There's no need for sexist comments.

OP have your car towed to the dealer and just be honest with them because they're gonna find out anyway. Don't drive it anymore until it is fixed.

Quick question though....did she realize she put diesel in it before or AFTER she drove it home??

Keep us updated. Good luck!

Diesel has a much higher flash point than premium fuel, so no worries about detonation.

I saw a TV show, top gear I believe, about mistakenly putting diesel in gas operated vehicle and vice versa and the myths related about the parts having to be replaced. I just can't remember if I was watching it on TV or on YouTube.

lol. "MEN are twice as likely to commit this humiliating error as women!"

So according to that video he can just fill the rest of the tank up with premium and it'll be fine?? Seems a little too..........easy.

As with any car manufacturer, Honda designed the Civic Si to be able to run on regular unleaded in the absence of premium.

I would seem to think that it would be a lot less expensive to go that route, drain your fuel tank, fill up with premium and turn it over until it was a go.

Often people skip the most obvious or simplest steps in trouble shooting because they think that it's too simple only to return later slapping their forehead realizing hind sight is 20/20.

True. But a scenario like this is different. Honestly if I heard sounds coming from my engine as a result of this type of mishap....my mindset would be that the damage has already begun or taken place and that it's time to take it into the dealer....and HOPE that they have enough integrity to inform the customer that simply draining and re-filling the tank with the correct gas will solve the issue instead of attempting to swindle them out of every dollar they're worth.

Cause they're trying to help someone out. What if it really did happen and we all just flamed him instead of help...
What if you did something stupid and we all just laughed at you or didn't believe you. That would suck for you huh?

You cant even put the diesel pump into an unleaded fuel car because the nozzle is a different size.
