shift lever replacement
i just bought a 1990 ef hatchback this week. i have been replacing some interior parts that are broken or messed up. im now replacing the shift lever cuz it is busted in half. just wondering if it is a hard replacement? also, would this be a good replacement? http://www.360tuners.com/index...D=610
yep that'll work fine. Its not too difficult. You can do it with the shift linkages still attached to the transmission, but it'd be easier if you pulled them out. Course then you have to deal with removing the bitch pin.. so it's up to you.

so its easier detaching the shift linkages? how long would this replacement of this take?

i had never done one before and it took me probably less than an hour to remove the linkages entirely, swap over the shift lever and then install b-series linkages. so it shouldn't be to hard. if you want to remove them either use a punch to remove the pin from the trans, or what i do is use a combination of vice grips, socket on one side, and a screwdriver attachment on the other (not sure what its called, see picture lol) Then use vice grips to get leverage and slowly twist the screw bit deally into the pin, and it will gradually be pushed into the open socket on the other side.
can you show us step by step i want to learn how to do it too i have short shifter that's been here for a long time just waiting to put it it. sorry for busting in your thread i just want to you how to do it

I removed the shifter **** and unbolted it from underneath as shown:

Here is a write-up on the subject: http://importnut.net/shifter.htm
But if you get the car up off the ground and work around the exhaust,
You can probably leave the linkage connected
to the transmission..
