Default 2004 Honda Accord Radio light won't work

My girlfriend just got a used 2004 Honda Accord EX four door a couple of months ago and now all of a sudden her radio light doesn't work anymore and we can't see the time or what radio station we are on. Is this problem a common problem among Accords? I checked the fuses and all are fine so I'm wondering if you guys have any other suggestions to this problem. Thanks.

Common enough. Most likely the baklight went out. There was a warranty on that problem.

The problem is in the radio itself. The warranty was extended to 80K miles I think, but call your dealer and ask. If you're out on miles, they'll sometimes pay a percentage of the cost of repairs.

Site http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/advice/t-8584.html discusses how the failure of resistor R727 on the radio circuit board is usually the cause and gives an easy DIY fix (get a soldering iron and jumper the resistor). See especially the post by mystified88.

The resistor is not the problem. Overheating causes the resistor to go bad.

The site I linked says replacing the old resistor with a new one per the spec in the manual does not fix the problem. Either way, the site I linked is a few years old now with people still updating it. No one has said the jumpering fix failed.

Manual at http://codedradio.info/manuals/panasonic/cq-eh9160a.pdf.

I'm just telling you my experience. The PCB's I've replaced all have brown burned marks on them.

Bring it to the nearest dealership, and they should replace the PCB for no charge. The warranty was extended to 7 years/ 80k miles (I think), but they will probably not charge you regardless of the miles. Mine was replaced at 47k miles.

i don't think it's a common problem, take it to your dealer although it seems that you are not in the warranty.

the radio and the display are 2 seperate parts , the display its self needs to be replaced. and it is a common problem on the accords. Call your local dealer and ask if it is covered , I know that some are. Yours might be

it's a common problem on this radio but it's not the display that fails the problem is the power supply board (where the code is stored) it's either a resistor or a fuse that fails both are surface mounted. But it should be covered by the warranty as long as the car doesn't have salavged title.

Looks to be kind of an old thread, but I'm going to post anyway. Might help someone. The display on my wife's 04 Accord went out. It has 109k on the odo., so we were 4k past the 105k extended warranty, but it's only 6 years old so we were still inside the 7 year extension. She took it to the dealer and was told that they wouldn't fix it under warranty and that she needed a $900 radio replacement. They did not offer to just replace the display/circuit board like they would have done if it still under warranty. She asked about the "goodwill repair". They said they would check on it and get back to us.They called later and said we were denied a goodwill repair, but they would replace display/circuit board for $156. Much better than 900 but still.... I called Honda America's 800 #. Was told that they and the dealer had discussed my case and I was denied a free fix. End of story. She wouldn't/couldn't tell me who was eligible for the goodwill fix but that I wasn't. I asked to speak to her supervisor, who was busy but would call me back. He called me back the next day to ask if I was indeed interested in pursuing the matter before he set it in motion again. I said "absolutely yes". He said I maybe had a 50/50 shot at getting it free. He also explained that they quit with the goodwill repairs ever since they extended the warranty. He gave me a case # and said a new caseworker would call me within 48 hours. The next morning the new guy called and informed me that after review, Honda was going to pay for it. So, call the 800# and don't take no for an answer, ask for a supervisor. $900 radio, yeah right. After reading this thread and it's links,I had already learned enough about jumping the resistor that we were going to fix it ourselves if Honda wouldn't help us. The wife used to do radar repair in the USAF and is very good at soldering.

Honda America fixed my display 100% free. Dealer asked me if I was supposed to pay any deductible and I said no, I was told it would be free. He said that if customer is required to pay part of the cost, then repair comes with a warranty. Honda America told me I was getting a free, one time only repair. It's working again and I'm on my own if it doesn't last. But hey, it's working now. I'm good.

I know this is an old thread but I had the same problem and was not as fortunate as some of you guys/gals. Honda wouldn't fix it for me so I had to do it myself.

Here is a video to show you what to do to fix. This was on a 2003 accord. But works on others with the same radio. You will have to solder one thing, but it is not that difficult.

You need a new PCB board. Order it from Honda. It will come with a new radio code. I had to do this on my 03 Accord V6 6mt.

Honda told me to go **** myself when I contacted them. Had to pay $90 for new PCB board and did it myself.

hey guys?

i was wondering what exactly are you guys asking for, when calling "customer service?"

Particular Part number? description ??

Also, what department are you calling?

I have tried "jumping" the connection, with no luck.

I LOVE MY car and the OEM bits.

thanks,
Dennis.
