knocking while turning
ok so this was my problem before...everytime i turn either right or left id get this knocking sound coming from the front end, i have no idea where it exactly is coming from, so i had my complete suspension done, coilovers, cambers and all brand new energy polyurathane bushings, and still getting this knock, i only have noticed it when driving slow, likeif im parked, and back up and then turn to pull out from behind a car is really when i notice this, any ideas at all?? 92 eg
why would grease in his wheel wells cause a knocking. If its a clicking/knocking, chances are he has a bad cv joint, if thats the case then he needs new axle.

Because If there's grease everywhere then a CV boot is torn which would cause the CV joint to take a crap. It sounds like a CV joint to me.

He is implying that if there is grease on the wheels that it is the grease from inside the cv boot, and it got on the wheels because the cv boot is torn he isnt saying that the cv boot grease is causing the knocking because it is on the wheel.

i just got both my boots changed less then 2 months ago cause one was split, and its like a loud knock almost like a banging, sounds like its only coming from the drivers side but happens when i turn either way

like already said, grease inside wheels or wheel wells would indicate that a cv boot is tore.

Thus the clicking. I would suggest to inspect the axles and steering rack;
1. put the car on jack stands
2. cycle steering lock to lock. (have someone else to do this while you inspect both sides and all the boots).
Then go from there..

Your joints were already contaminated with **** and now they are going bad. If I were driving on torn boots for a while I would never just replace the boots because most likely your joints have already suffered damage. Your hack job of a shop should have used common sense and thrown in a set of axles since they don't really cost a lot for these cars. I use autozone lifetime warranty joints so that I can break them all the time and get new ones for free, but if you're not really making big power lifetime replacement axles aren't necessary, just get the regular ones.

Nailed it.

Depends on what brand you use and if you have someone else do it or you do it yourself.
a set of good axles will run you about $150-200 but you can get em for like half that on ebay. not that i would recommend it. Replacement is fairly easy, just have a good sized pry bar on hand in case the castle nuts on the lower ball joint are siezed up.

I think on my crx axles were less than $100 per side. I'm thinking like $75 but it was so long ago I don't remember. If you are paying a shop than prepare to be bent over as usual and add at least $200 more to that total while they charge you for like 3 hours of labor for something that shouldn't take more than 1 hour to do both sides with a lift. If the bolts on the shock fork are seized in the lower control arm then let the real *** raping begin.
