1990 accord, idle fluctuates
While im driving the car its seems to be running fine, when i come to i stop and it s at curb idle it fluctuates from about 700-750 down to about anywhere between 200-300 and feels like its gonna stall, Could that be EGR related?
check the iacv remove the 2 screws on the top plate and see if the white plunger is unscrewed you should be able to screw it back in by hand but careful not to over tighten it.
FYI IACV does not have a plate on it or a screw type adjustment.
On the 1990 Accords there are three components that are a part of the idle system.
1.Fast Idle Thermo Valve (FITV) this is the part that has two screws, a plate and screw in plunger that can be adjusted. It is mounted vertically on the right of the intake manifold
2. Electronic Air Control Valve (aka Idle Air Control Valve - IACV) This is the solenoid that is attached to the front of the intake manifold next to the throttle body linkage.
and
3. Air boost valve. This is mounted on the end of the intake manifold.
First check all of your vacuum lines for cracks / leaks. Then remove and clean all three of the above mentioned components. While your at it it wouldn't hurt to clean out your EGR. There is a DIY on cleaning the IACV, FITV and throttle body for the 5th gen in the FAQ's. The same practices can be used on the 90 as well. The parts are just in different locations.
